I dont know. I am pretty sure that there are more landed lords in Karameikos than the ones mentioned in K:KoA or Gaz1. Even though I play 3E, I see very few products that have any appeal to me. I havent bought too many 3E products in the last year or so either. Which products of recent have you found useful? Which ones are you thinking about buying (recent or coming?). Which of these have you found that can enrich a Mystara campaign? Just tossing out a topic here... Uhm, I think Karameikos is already pretty crowded -- most of the lands not under the control of a noble are accounted for by humanoids or demihumans. And since it should be quite a frontier land, I don't think there's much space for other landed lords. Bye, GP ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2005 17:34:21 +0200 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: WotC products Havard Faanes wrote: > > Which products of recent have you found useful? I still buy AD&D/OD&D things, though. I do find non-Mystaran things useful at times, though -- e.g., I've used Al Qadim stuff for a (short lived) campaign in Ylaruam, and Maztica stuff for a PbeM based on VotPA. The rules for the arcane duels could be easily adapted to match the OD&D duel-shield spell described (quite poorly, indeed) in Dawn of the Emperors (players' guide to Alphatia, the red booklet). The prestige classes chapter displays a few amazingly unbalanced inventions (e.g. the Incantatrix), but it has still been useful to me to get inspiration to develop the 3E-conversion of the Seven Secret Crafts of Glantri (seven 10-level fully 3E-compliant prestige classes; I can provide you with the pdf file if somebody is interested - it's written in Italian, however). In MoF you can also find a bunch of decent spells, amidst a crop of useless, ill-described, unlikely powerful or very FR-oriented spells that require more than a little effort to be translated into a satisfactory form. The magic items chapter, quite predictably, contains the usual stuff that you'd expect to find there; nevertheless, a few of them are interesting and the chapter is worth be read (I usually find the magic items sections very boring, but MoF was a partial exception). I own the Forgotten Realms Campaign Sourcebook (for D&D 3E), too, and I have to admit that it is a very high quality product, that should probably be regarded as a valuable template for any Mystara Campaign Sourcebook to possibly come. I have given a look to several other manuals, too. The "Draconomicon" and "Savage Species" could be quite useful also in a Mystaran setting, to detail exotic creatures like the Night Dragon, rakastas, lupins, the Herathian spiders and so on. The "Psionic Handbook" is tantalizing but definitely useless unless you are going to play a Yavdlom campaign or something like that. The Monsters Manual II and III are _very_ superfluous. The Mystaran multiverse is markedly different from the "standard" D&D cosmology described in the "Planar Handbook", "Manual of Planes", "Fiends Folio" and the like, so I don't find them particularly useful for a Mystaran campaign. The main use of the "Epic Level Handbook" is to scare those players whose high-level characters are trifling with the idea of killing the Master of Hule since "he is only a 20-th level cleric, after all (and Bozdogan is unlikely to grant the domains Luck and Pianification)"! ;) bye Matteo ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2005 08:58:43 -0700 From: Ray Allen Subject: Re: WotC products Håvard, I bought Frostburn. I thought it would be useful in Northern Norwold. Now I just need to pull together as much Norwold information (both canon and non-canon) to make a gazetteer of Norwold.
