I mean, NPCs, Monsters, Traps and the like have been thought to fit the "story", according to the specific Edition rules and parameters, and too many things would become unrealistic, or unbalanced, doesn't matter how fine are conversion rules you use... I think you'd better put your mind on the "substitution" approach... I mean, you enter new NPCs, Monsters, etc, to fit encounters' needs and party skills, regardless of Module's original choices. You can easily find them in your DM's stuff, can't you? The main thing is, in my opinion, that you save the Modules's "story" and mood, isn't it? Does it really matter if you meet a goblin or a kobold? The Campaign I'm currently playing started using OD&D Rules, but some three years ago we decided to "convert" to 3rd edition... what we actually did was just to keep Class (Elf was changed to a Elvish Fighter/Sorcerer), level (we were all between 6th and 9th) and ability scores (adjusted to get the same bonus/malus scores). Everything else was rebuilt from start, using no conversion rules and a lot of common sense... equipment was adjusted to balance large differences in scores (e.g. Saving Throws), feats and skills were assigned, and even spells were chosen from scratch... proficencies were changed into feats or skills, and we even created new metamagic feats to substitute glantrian classes and secret circles' spell-like abilities... it was a long and hard work, especially for the DM, but now we may say we are complete, self-consistent 3rd Edition PCs, and not "converted" ones! Ofcourse, with the vast number of 3E/D20 products out there, I can see that many OE players want to introduce some of these elements into their OE campaigns. Also, 3E players using Mystara would want to introduce Mystara-specific elements/characters in their campaigns that haven't been officially converted yet. I am interested in what you mentioned about your group having created feats to replace the Secret Crats and whatnot. When are you going to share these things? :D Håvard --- Altair IV wrote: > I hope Angelo won't get offended, but I don't like > the whole idea of > "conversion" at all. When are you going to share these things? :D Ooh, I'm sorry, Håvard... what we did is so far from being a complete job, that I can hardly imagine it is "sharable"... we just figured out something, not to loose what we already had. But if I find out something appealing among my DM's stuff, I'll let you know ^_* Altair IV - the Darkstar ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 27 Apr 2005 to 28 Apr 2005 (#2005-85) ***************************************************************
