Well, that's where I disagree. And maybe it means bending or breaking the rules as presented but so be it. (1) To me it's not, or shouldn't be, the character that's the focus of the campaign, it's the Quest itself. If the quest means vanquishing all wizards then let the Candidate vanquish the wizards. The party can defeat the wizards' minions, apprentices, etc. If the Candidate has afternoon tea with a high level wizard and the wizard says, truthfully, "You are my master," then doesn't that count as vanquishing? Suddenly part of the story of the Candidate's ascension is how he peacefully gained the alliance of Wizardly High-mucky-muck So-and-so. (2) Likewise if the testimony characters help turn a village into ardent followers it's also a reflection of the Candidate's abilities for gathering followers. And Immortals need followers - both laity, clergy and champions. If Immortals are supposed to increase the power of their Sphere then having others further the Sphere's goals supports that. If that's not an issue, then I agree with you. Too early in the morning, not enough coffee. ;-P So, here's an idea (semi tongue-in-cheek, but bringing it back on topic, sort of): What if, thanks to the powers of the Blackflame, and their deep connection with their land, the hin were able to breed, over many generations, a variety of giant badger? Initially they would have been bred as land mounts (perhaps as a more ferocious replacement for giant hamsters*, who wouldn't have fared well against glaurants and other nasties), and for excavation (i.e., for traditional hin homes and storehouses). More recently, as more and more nations began to take to the air, the hin sheriffs realised that their land could once again fall victim to foreign aggression. So, they consulted their clanmasters, and after years of work managed to breed a variety of giant badger that could fly. Whether it flies by inflating internal air bladders, or whether it has wings, or by some other means, could be worked out later. There are only a handful of flying badgers, and they are used strictly for patrolling the skies, and intercepting strange craft. Geoff *Maybe I've completely lost it, but I seem to recall that at some point, years ago, someone posted the idea of the hin bringing giant hamsters with them to the Shires. Does anyone else remember this?? ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2006 10:16:10 -0700 From: Joe Kelly Subject: What issue?
