Likely? If new editions are released more or less every 10th year, we should see 4e around 2011. Who else thinks Mystara could appear just prior to that? :P Håvard ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2006 15:46:10 +0200 From: Havard Faanes Subject: Re: Land of Karawenn Sorry about the late replies to this list this week. --- Giampaolo Agosta skrev: > > Draken > Well, one could say that it should be Draken's > author to tell why the > climate is so mild there :) Yes, I notice that none of the almanac material fits the concept of the northern part of Norwold being arctic... > > My own attitude to these things is that everything > > Classic D&D belongs to Mystara. > > I know. Ofcourse, one could make Karawenn a taiga/tundra land. Reading through the novel, the generic-ness doesnt exactly make the novel a more interesting read. OTOH, there are a few other things in the novel that suggest placing it on another plane... You are right, its just the illustration on the same page in DotE that suggests the usage of flying ships. Ofcourse, flying ships are more fun. Flying outside of gravity does make the ships fly faster, still, there is a big difference in distance to the closest planets and the edge of the solar system. > I don't see the Gnomes as expecially interested in > cooperating with > either Thyatis or the HK, given their past > experiences ;) True. Ofcourse, no Gnome could resist such a scientific opportunity though, could he? I am wondering though if it isnt just the after-effects of the whole Magic and Vampire/Goth explosions now a thing of the past. > Outland (Oslo) is now the only store there, by the > way. Not that much. Settings sell only to DMs, players' handbooks sell much more. And old setting would appeal mostly to (comparatively) smaller communities of old fans. That's one of the problems of the MA coverage of Norwold. Kaarjala does have its reason for being not-so-arctic, but the rest should be mostly Taiga (below the large river) or Tundra (above it). > Understandable. In any case, I suspect seeing Mystara back in print would be a sign of 3E coming to an end... What could happen is a "Classic Settings" book, featuring material from more than one OOP setting. These could also be written with the player in mind aiming for the kind of market you mention. Do you agree that a 4E is bound to happen some time around the end of this decade? I wonder what changes they would make this time around... (With spoiler tag, if needed) *****SPOILER WARNING For Pawns Prevail Novel****** I dont know if a spoiler warning is really neccesary, but oh well, there it is. Basically, the thing in question is what is called "The End of the World", which appears to be exactly that. Ofcourse so far it doesnt add much to the story and I was assuming that it could be rewritten into some old canyon, although at least one statement in the novel makes this problematic. We'll have to see when I get to the end of this novel or whether the rest of the trilogy deals more with that. Others can feel free to share their insight here, I dont care much if the novels are spoiled for me or not... Another note; the inclusion of a Hsiao, an Actaon and a Nightshade in addition to the previously mentioned Immortals/Spheres sets the novels definately within the Mystaran cosmology. We'll have to see about the actual planet though :) Håvard ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2006 17:22:06 +0200 From: Havard Faanes Subject: Who is making money on Mystara? Dark Sun, maybe, but not Mystara. > What could happen is a "Classic Settings" book, > featuring material from more than one OOP setting. > These could also be written with the player in mind > aiming for the kind of market you mention. Maybe, but I think the strategy is more on bringing more people to their current settings than supporting the old ones. That's a distinctive trait of WotC management w.r.t. TSR (which kept OD&D and AD&D1e around for quite some time). > Do you agree that a 4E is bound to happen some time > around the end of this decade? I wonder what changes > they would make this time around... Probably. I don't really know enough about 3e to foresee what kind of features could be discarded or altered.
