If you consider what changed from 0E to 3.5E it is more and more options to modify a charachter (and an NPC, and monsters and so on). If in OD&D you had a class and a race that were the same thing, the later versions broke these bonds more and more untill now you can have most races with most classes, there is certain variance of classes abilities, feats skills and prestiege classes make each charachter very adaptable. I think the feat system can be expanded in 4e to a level where charachter classes are mere suggsestions (packages or kits) and not a must. Feats are excellent, and skills; but actual attack, saving throws, etc... could be modified per level based on how you wanted to spend points for those abilities. Other points would be spent on special abilities like spell casting etc... Essentially though, this would obliterate the last vestiges of the original game and it really wouldn't be D&D any more. Would be cool though. Anthony Edwards __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Well, it is in the interest of paizo and others that people keep buying the OOP pdfs. Maybe, as a marketing scheme, they could add some more things, as new articles in Dragon and Dungeon or even elsewhere? Such modular systems have the advantage of being more flexible, but their disadvantage is how long it takes to create a PC or NPC. That wouldnt neccesarily mean the elimiation of classes since the concept of Class Skills could still be around to encourage the same kind of progression as with the current system. Would be interesting to see...
