I've been following this discussion and its spin-off about Ochaelans with great interest, but I would like to hear more about the Flaems. One reason for this is that on the MMB we have been discussing the idea of having a Flaem civilization preserved in the Hollow World. This is based on one of Bruce's hints in Dragon that there could in theory be a magic using society in the Hollow World that were able to access the Radiance. This has lead me to begin researching the Flaemish Highlands, as they were detailed in the Dragonlord Trilogy. The Trilogy is set around 490-500 AC. There is a map showing which towns/cities exist in the Glantri area (described only as the Highlands) at that time. The Flaems are the only humans in the are at the time, and though the Erewan and Belcadiz elves have settled in the south, the humans know very little about them. The Flaems have red hair and coppery skin, which leads to them referring to the elves as the Pale Ones. There is also a Gnomish settlement near the Three Vulcanoes area named Torkyn Falls. AFAIK, the Flaems have not yet learned that the Followers of Air have settled in Alphatia and would react with fear if they knew this to be true. They have however discovered the existance of the Radiance. This is also a time when the Dragons of Mystara are becoming more active, primarily, at this time, due to the conflict between the Dragons of Wyrmsteeth and the so-called Renegade Dragons in the Known World. (predecessors of the dragons detailed in the Who is Who Among Dragons article). Some problems: -How to figure out population numbers among the Flaems? -How much is Flaem culture similar to that of modern Glantri (if at all)? -What else do we know about the Known World in this period? Any help would be appreciated. --- Ville V Lahde skrev: > I'm constructing an old abode of a Flaem mage for my > campaign (built around 600 AC in the area of Heldann). > > The Flaem came from the Old Alphatia, but precious > little has been written about them. > > Racially and culturally they should be close to the > original Alphatians.
