I like the fact that Chris "Green Ronin" Pramas so foundly remembered Castle Amber that he included the Countess d'Ambreville character in his setting. I dont really know "the Last Airbender" beyond what google could tell me, but it sounds like an interesting campaign you lay out. Would Old Alphatia have a similar flora and fauna as Mystara/Earth? How would things have evolved after a milennium after the destruction of the planet? Would more creatures have developed flying for instance? What interesting buildings, cities, locations from Old Alphatia may have been preserved? The Palace of King Alphaks? My kids love the show, we= don't miss a single episode in this house. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T= he_last_airbender > Would Old Alphatia have a similar flora and fauna as> Mystara/Earth?> > H= ow would things have evolved after a milennium after> the destruction of th= e planet? Would more creatures> have developed flying for instance?> > What= interesting buildings, cities, locations from Old> Alphatia may have been = preserved? The Palace of King> Alphaks?> Interesting thoughts. From what I= remember, there are more planetoids than the Deltharian and Gammarians. M= ost of the populace that live there have been reduced to zonga dazed native= s. Alphaks seems to have a very strong influence in this area. There migh= t be a lot of secrets he does not want discovered, so he keeps them doped u= p. =20 I imagine the flora and fauna will be very similar to Mystara/Modern Alphat= ia. Their Silk Spiders may have some wild undomesticated cousins. The Gam= marians could possibly have a secret craft dealing with their phase magic. = They may also have more problems with ethereal creatures, and with Alphak'= s influence, possibly more problems with nightmare creatures. =20 The campaign suggestion of Spill World, from DoTE, would make this area a g= ood staging area. Alphatia conquered many planets, so there are huge possi= bilities of many floating continents, islands, nations, and old empires. M= any ideas from Flash Gordon come to mind... Hawkmen, Ice Asteroids, ect... Going back to the "The Last Airbender" thread, they have an extensive list = of fauna. The flying bison and winged lemur (the winged lemur reminds me o= f the phanaton), both are good examples of creatures living in this type of= world. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with gadgets on Windows Live Spaces http://discoverspaces.live.com?source=3Dhmtag1&loc=3Dus= ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2006 15:07:32 -0300 From: Steven Carter Subject: Re: Gaming in Old Alphatia I can't help but think of Niven's "Integral Trees" and "Smoke Ring". The "Smoke Ring"= would be an excellent source for the Spill World. That would be a good ca= mpaign hook. The "Smoke Ring" colliding into Ancient Alphatia would cause = all sorts of havoc on the Integral Trees gravity, causing many civilization= s to collapse and seeking remedies or invasion forces to seek better ground= , being the protected area of Ancient Alphatia. Imagine joint groups of Th= yatian and Alphatian seeking to look for colonizing the Smoke Ring/Spill Wo= rld, only to find a much larger and possibly more advanced civilization loo= king to do the same. Then Ancient Alphatia would end up being the staging = ground to launch a possible invasion of Mystara or the best defense Mystara= has against an invasion. Long Live Emperor Ming! How would the Heldannic= Knights view this world? _________________________________________________________________ Use Messenger to talk to your IM friends, even those on Yahoo! http://ideas.live.com/programpage.aspx?versionId=3D7adb59de-a857-45ba-81cc-= 685ee3e858fe= ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2006 12:00:37 -0700 From: Chris Cherrington Subject: Re: Gaming in Old Alphatia I can see one very important magical item: Phase Oars. These magical oars= are enchanted to "dig in" to the ethereal, thus allowing users the ability= to "row" between land masses without the use of sails or other propulsions= . Each oar has a small chance of creating an "eddy". These eddies have a = chance of allowing creatures from the ethereal plane access to this world. = Treat each oar in use as a 1% chance per hour of continuous use. Thus a g= alley of 50 rowers will cause a 50% chance of creating an eddy that allows = a wandering monster from the ethereal loose. =20 =20 For more Fauna ideas, winged creatures would have had the advantage of surv= ival in this world. Creatures like Harpies or "Lesser Archons" might have = powerful nations on some of the fringe planetoids. Keeping the Moby track = in mind, there may be new creatures like Winged Sirens or Wingmaids. =20 _________________________________________________________________ Use Messenger to talk to your IM friends, even those on Yahoo! http://ideas.live.com/programpage.aspx?versionId=3D7adb59de-a857-45ba-81cc-= 685ee3e858fe= ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2006 12:19:53 -0700 From: Chris Cherrington Subject: Re: Gaming in Old Alphatia If Vanya has a strong following, she may want to have them meet with her ot= her followers from Mystara. What ancient forms = of Alphatian magic that may have been outlawed, or even what strange creatu= res that may have been left unattended. Shawdomancers that blend nightmare= creatures to their will like modern Necromancers.
