They will be accompanied by a Shadowelf Shaman, and =20 their purpose is to get to the City of Stars undetected by the agents =20 of Xatapechli. (See the recent post about the Caravan Campaign.) =20 Xatapehcli and Telemon have succesfully attacked Alfheim, but the PCs =20 can prove that they did so by acting "blasphemously", by using Soul =20 Gems as currency and by employing magic powers that would be =20 considered evil by Rafiel's code of conduct. The campaign is in a nice stage, as the PCs are really unsure about =20 who is right and who is wrong in the Shadowelf inner conflict. Have =20 the Shadowelves really been abandoned by their relatives, and do they =20 have a right to live in the forest? Is King Telemon right in trying to =20 free his people from the stifling religion of Rafiel? Or is Rafiel's =20 way really the best thing for the Shadowelves, as the Shamans claim? =20 They wish to save Alfheim, end the current conflict and have revenge =20 on Xatapechli. But they are also unsure about the nature of Rafiel's =20 religion: would a religious rift in the Shadowelf society serve their =20 interests better? Or should the underground elves be allowed to join =20 their relatives, rather than the present racial segregation? Their Shaman guide knows about their misgivings and will wish to use =20 the coming quest to teach them about the nature of Shadowelf culture =20 and religion, about Rafiel's Way. She wishes to convince them that it =20 is right and proper for her people. But this is a two-edged sword: =20 certain aspects of the culture will surely seem cruel to outsiders, =20 and might lend credibility to Telemon's cause. My plans are in initial stages, as we are going to have a pause and =20 play another campaign (Real World 30 Years' War as Swedish diplomats =20 to the French court!). But I sense some problems here. If the PCs are =20 supposed to slip into the City of Stars undetected, it will be herder =20 to get them into contact with the Shadowelf culture. Any ideas? Would the Shama= n in the party even want the PC's to just go storming in unprepared or even= on a bad day? She may require the PC's to submit to ritual purification. = Certain days are good to eat certain things, and other days they need to g= o without food and fast. The Shaman may have to go ahead and research a go= od day to infiltrate, and must leave the PC's behind to wander around a sha= dow elf ghetto. Before the Shaman can do this, the PC' will need to know m= ore of what is going on that they can and cannot do in public (and the Sham= an may even want the PC's to learn more in an effort to convert). There co= uld be a hook here as well; higher level Shaman's may already know of certa= in days that are omened to be good days to be infiltrated and they may have= taken certain precautions against any attempt. Then again, they may have = certain days that are omened to be bad days to infiltrate, and will be lax = on those days. This query should really make the Shaman question her own b= elief system on what would be the best route, and even question the whole t= aboo system. =20 _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with gadgets on Windows Live Spaces http://discoverspaces.live.com?source=3Dhmtag1&loc=3Dus= ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 8 Dec 2006 to 12 Dec 2006 (#2006-187) ***************************************************************
