For sevral years I was an active member of a gaming group that played in a home brew setting called Cyros. I was a player/DM there for a while but then I found Ultima Online and my attendence in Cyros fell came to a stand still. I also ran a Robotech PBeM for sevral years and handed it off to another player that was the backup GM. Its around 4 or 5 years old now. For those of you that dont know what Robotech is its the americanized verstion of Macross from Japan. > > >has been in a private chatroom using AOL and AIM. > > How was it? It was very fun. AOL has a built in dice roller that puts the dice rolls right in the chatroom. Sometimes the chatroom would glitch and kick people out of the chatroom but its prity easy to work around. If anyone is interested in gaming in Cyros please let me know, you dont need to AOL to take part in the games, you can use AIM (www.aim.com ) to take part. Before anyone asks, yes, AIM is free :-P > > Many thanks, Boonedale! > > Vini Your welcome very much :-) > > > >--- "Vinicius R. de Moraes - USP Solar" > > wrote: > > > > > Hi, folks! > > > > > > I plan to start a D&D *campaign* in PBEM > > > (play-by-e-mail) format. The group was basically the same as my old tabletop group -- after university, some of the players moved back home or abroad, and we switched to PbeM until real life forced almost everyone to back out. The players, having time to think up their characters' speeches, often came up with hilarious scenes :) >> and I'm currently playing in a Play-by-Newsgroup DMed by another listmember. > > Is it like PBEM? Yes, except it is played mostly on a Newsgroup instead of private email. > So you recommend to dratically lower the number of combats? I do, though I might be biased since my campaigns are often combat-light even in tabletop games. > The adventures tend to be more role-play and less of a hack'n'slash, right? Yes. > Please tell me more about "intra-group interaction". Let decision making become a major part of the adventure -- when faced with decisions, especially those concerning ethics or dangerous enterprises, have the character discuss (you may use NPCs to push all players to express their opinions if needed). Give each player goals and motives, and put them at odds, so that they have to work out solutions that fit with everyone's needs. >> This can be solved by introducing a different random element (e.g., hash of the message-id or other pseudo-random element carried by the mail), by having the DM roll all dice, > > What is the problem in players also rolling dice? Well, for one, they might be tempted to "adjust" important rolls ;) Also, people do not necessarily post from their home, so they may not have dice with them at all times. > What is the Panache? A special game mechanic from the Savage Coast book -- you can read about it on the Vaults. If you're familiar with Force Points from Star Wars, it's more or less the same thing. > Writing is good for recording who did what and when. It sort of fills in what is missing in a spoken game! Of course. On the other hand, it tends to slow down the game -- unless your players are quick typists ;) Bye, GP ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 17 Feb 2006 to 18 Feb 2006 (#2006-30) ***************************************************************
