They are mentioned, indeed. The "Immortal Guardians" are the patrons of the Alasiyan people, and Al Kalim is their herald/prophet. > I checked the vaults while writing this email and found some articles on > this subject. Is there canon matter on this subject ? Perhaps the Ylaruam > Gazetteer ( which I have actually lost along the years ) mentions something > about this subject ? Yes, it does. The Gaz mentions The Old Man of the Sea, The Gnoll, and Zephyr as Immortals related to the end of Nithia. The Old Man of the Sea is also the chief Immortal Guardian, and Al Kalim's patron. Thanatos and Corona are mentioned as enemies of this pantheon. No identities are given for these Immortals except these pseudonyms, but most articles assume that The Old Man of the Sea be Protius, The Gnoll Pflarr, and Zephyr Odin. Note that early Alasiyan are also credited with the introduction of certain mystic beliefs in Sind -- the Fakirs. The Dervishes are also members of a druidic-like faith that became the basis for the development of the Eternal Truth. The problem with that theory is that "the Gnoll" is mentioned specifically (along with Zephyr and the Old Man of the Sea) as being opposed to Thanatos and Corona in the Nithian conflict that led to the erasure of the Nithian memory. Since later sources would reveal Ranivorus to be a cohort of Thanatos in the conflict (and Ranivorus to be a gnoll), the two sources clash. Of course, since Ranivorus was not only a gnoll, but not introduced to Mystara until the much later Gaz7 (where he was a demon, not a gnoll), it can be argued, as some have proposed, that the earlier source (Gaz2) got things wrong, and it should have been OMotS, Zephyr, and Corona, in opposition to Thanatos and "the Gnoll". Depends on what you want to do with things, ultimately. ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Feb 2006 22:27:14 -0500 From: Joe Mason Subject: Re: Religion of Ylaruam Andrew Theisen wrote: > Of course, since Ranivorus was not only a gnoll, but > not introduced to Mystara until the much later Gaz7 > (where he was a demon, not a gnoll), it can be argued, > as some have proposed, that the earlier source (Gaz2) > got things wrong, and it should have been OMotS, > Zephyr, and Corona, in opposition to Thanatos and "the > Gnoll". > > Depends on what you want to do with things, ultimately. > I think it would be very interesting if a big part of the Nithian conflict was Ranivorus stealthily supplanting the cults of Pflaar, making use of his similar aspect.
