Is that in the > Vaults too? Yes, it's in the Vaults: http://pandius.com/ylaricam.html The main issue is the relative size of the setting -- where Zakhara is an entire subcontinent, Ylaruam is much smaller. So, the many cities of Zakhara find no match in the few cities of Ylaruam -- though Huzuz, City of Delights, can be used to flesh out the city of Ylaruam, the Pantheist towns can be plundered for NPCs and other stuff for Abbashan, etc. Also, there are no Arabian Elves/Halflings/Dwarves in Ylaruam (i.e., these must be "ajami" characters in Al Qadim words), so I replace them with two Lupin subraces, the Fighting Fennec (a fine Halfling/Gnome replacement!) and the Nithian Rambler. If you play AD&D, then the kits from the Arabian Adventure books are quite good. I did modify the priest kits (also in the Vaults, with other modified Al Qadim kits), and did not allow all wizard kits from the Complete Sha'ir's Handbook, mostly because Ylaruam is too small to have developed that many wizard types. Finally, Al Qadim has a series of small adventures that are easily ported to different locales -- I moved "A Flick of the Tail" from "A Dozen and One Adventures" and "The Vizier's Turban" from "Corsairs of the Great Sea" to Cubis with little effort. > I guess one could assume Toril and Oerth are out there but that means > I'd have to work out why Iuz and all the other favorite gods and > demi-gods aren't active on Mystara. Why does Mystara have Immortals > and not gods. Etc. Although this is probably answered for me > somewhere. Not specifically, though it's acknowledged in K:KoA (there's an odd dialogue about immortals and gods). Anyway, the simplest explanation is that gods of other campaigns are actually Immortals as well (BTW, AD&D has a simplified version of the rules for reaching Immortality), it's just that high level Mystarans are more likely to know the real nature of these beings. And IMO, the Nightmare Dimension is a good substitute destination for that gateway for those who, like me, do not like using other TSR worlds with Mystara. Actually, I might allow aspects of other game settings to be used, especially elements from SpellJammer and Planescape, or just as inspiration like what GP did with Ylaruam/Al Quadim, but not full settings as such. Not counting Blackmoor obviously... (How > much surface area is > covered by Blackmoor books compared to the Known > World and other modern > Mystara settings?) The ZGG and older Blackmoor books cover only a very small region of the world. However, it also provides hints of what things are like in a much larger surrounding area. Also, considering that out of this very small region, grew a civilization that eventually came to dominate the entire planet, we can get ideas for what that world spanning civilization was like from the Blackmoor books. I'm sure that Afridhi, Froggies, Skandaharians Peshwa and Thonians as well as the Egg played a role, also in the later ages of Blackmoor so these could also provide some ideas for what may have been left behind in various parts of Mystara today. As for your thoughts on the Immortals, I suspect that the handful of known Mystaran Immortals who are old enough to remember Blackmoor, they were probably around at that time. Odin, Ordana, Ixion and Thanatos have obvious parallells in the ZGG book, so much you think they made them that way on purpose...*winks to Dustin*. Other Deities from the ZGG book may have faded as a result of the GRoF or they could still be around somewhere, lurking in the shadows... I dont think this is canon(?) The only reference I can think of is the Blacklore Valley, but that concerns the technology in that region only. Bringing technology into a campaign is not everyones cup of tea, but I like at least having the theoretical possibility.
