Subject: Re: Darokin City I'd come up with an idea some time ago about having Darokin run from behind the scenes by the Illuminati. It has for some time struck me as a little amusing that a nation built entirely on commerce wouldn't be viewed as, or in fact actually be, Evil. Even more so if they're smiling at you and telling you everything is okay at the same time they're screwing you out of house and home. I'd also thought it would be interesting that at the same time they're promoting diplomacy among the surrounding nations they're actually *engineering* conflicts simultaneously in order to turn a profit off the ensuing battles. It's pretty easy to come up with other sinister Darokinian dealings once that foundation has been laid. I'd written something for the list about 5 years ago that ended up somewhere on the Pandius site, albeit rather poorly formatted, about the Darokinian Illuminati, but with a more humorous bent (influenced at the time by GURPS Illuminati), but it makes a little more sense if you dig up the actual email in the list archives. Either way, I've been planning on doing a re-working of the idea for some time- just have to get my notes in order. And there's my good idea for Darokin. R. Same for the Broken Lands. Is that really what > the orcs call it? I think the Orc name would have a meaning like Holy Land or Promised Land, since that is what it is to them. Or perhaps simply "home". Along those lines, maybe it is the land of the Blue Knife (in honor of the quest that brought them there?) Or some kind of variation of Oenkmar? ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Apr 2006 22:14:37 -0300 From: "Vinicius R. de Moraes - USP Solar" Subject: Mystara & Ravenloft I recently mentioned something here about a relationship between the 2 worlds. Now I make it deeper. Enjoy and please send your ideas! I'm running "Wrath of the Immortals" for my players, so I needed them to go from level 3 (they started their players at that level, as Mr. Arneson taught us in Brazil) to say 9 (i order to endure the 2nd part of the campaign). I'm therefore running the "First Quest" adventures (do you think I should run the "Across Wildspace" one?) and wil run some others: "Rage of the Rakasta", the 2 from "Karameikos, Kingdom of Adventure" (and whatever else ou guys recommend me). Well, after delivering a clean Corran Keep to Jedarin Coran (I made him a cloth/clothes/rugs/carpets dealer), they were invited by him to take him to Highforge to trade goods with the Gnomes (which will right after depart for the Gnome Caravan). They played the first First Quest adventure ("The Tomb of Demara") in the Darokinian city that is close to Threshold and Penhaligon, across the mountains, can't remember its name. They then took the road* to Penhaligon and there one of the players started receiving msgs in the shape of night and day dreams: a woman asking for help. And that is the hook for "Ghost of Harrow Hill". ("Wrath of the Immortals" SPOILERS start!) * Still in the company of Crackle, the undead boy! What if they can deliver him to his Vampire mother, huh? ("Wrath of the Immortals" SPOILERS end.) I used something VERY Ravenlofty to put them into this adventure: the hero with the visions followed his sense to a hill south of Penhaligon, where heavy rain and thick mist surrounded them, causing them to bump into a mansion. ("Ghost of Harrow Hill" SPOILERS start!) They finished the adventure without finding the silver heart (thus killing the ghost, not the great zombie), hence the first should reappear. We have a good recurring villain here! Maybe they will be taken to Ravenloft, I still do not know. ("Ghost of Harrow Hill" SPOILERS end.) Someone here once mentioned a link from Ravenloft's Barovia to Glantri's Boldavia, right? Maybe I'll lint Ravenloft to Koriszgy Keep, Zemirus Sulescu (or the "The Night of the Vampire" vampire) to some big guys from that world... I gladly accept ideas! Pascale" Subject: Re: Mystara & Ravenloft Hi Vini I believe someone mentioned that since Ravenloft's Barovian homeworld was never located on any "canon" world, it would be very easy to link it to Boldavia in Glantri. How you go about that, I'm not sure. Perhaps after Strahd's reign, when he was taken to the Land of the Mists, Morphail's family came into power. Perhaps they were one of the original families, along with the Dylisnia's, the Van Royen's, and so forth. Or is Morphail part of Strahd's bloodline (or vice versa?) It seems it's pretty open and easy to incorporate. If they are linked, I'm sure there's a gateway (or mistway as it were) to Barovia in Boldavia. Or perhaps the ancient artifacts are left behind in Boldavia, such as the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind or the Icon of Ravenloft...which if uncovered can lead into the Mists... As for which games to run, there's nothing wrong with running "Across Wildspace," as long as your mixing up the themes and so forth of the campaign. If your making Mystara more gothic oriented, I'd advice against it, only cause the space travel doesn't lend itself too well. However, it sounds like your more Karameiko's oriented in your campaign. If so, I'd definately play up either the Sulescu angle a bit more. It's a quiet domain, and perhaps Sulescu is trying to be "good" to make up for his families evil deeds in the past (whether they be linked to the Von Zaroviches or even Duke Gundar (though it's believed he's originally from Greyhawk), or any of the other vampire bloodlines. Koriszgy Keep seems the best example, as the legend is very basic and it tells of a party the original lord had and how the place was destroyed. That fits almost perfectly with Strahd's story. Perhaps the "Shadow" left behind in the keep is Strahd's other half, or simply a portion of his soul. Kinda along the lines of his split soul from the "House on Gryphon Hill" game. Since the legends say most don't return from the ruins, perhaps it's not death but because they are taken to RL. Maybe the Shadow isn't even the "lord" so to speak, maybe it's half of Tatyana's soul that still lurks in Mystara, while her other half is constantly reformed in RL. Or is it a minion of Azalin's, who keeps an eye out for the lich, so that if anyone meddles in Strahd's past, they can be used as a pawn in their power struggle. Vandevinsky (if I have that spelt right), is also very basic. The small town was created just for "Night of the Vampire" with a small blurb in K:KoA. So that's easily tied to the demiplane. Perhaps Natasha actually comes from the demiplane and then it's easy to tie her into any of the dark bloodlines. Hope some of this helps! --Dennis ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 14 Apr 2006 to 19 Apr 2006 (#2006-73) ***************************************************************
