And since we are again talking about bosses, any ideas about > LeRauxe breed? =) Mmh... Aquatis could be a Kopru. LeRauxe is clearly some kind of hunter breed, possibly the Renardois Folk (based on several french breeds), since he seems to fit the Swashbuckler type. Otherwise, the Bloodhound (based on greyhounds) could fit -- though with its higher dexterity and swashbuckling character, the Renardois Folk seems a better choice. > The same I was thinking. Probably she's trying to establish a power base near Bellayne because that's one of the few organized Rakasta nations on Mystara (the Simbasta of Davania and the Sherkasta of Skothar are more primitive). Setting the temple there would allow her followers to start proselytizing in Bellayne. > By the way, where i can read more about Bastet? In Bruce Heard's article on dragon magazine 247. "Non-evil" kobolds, specially if you are using the lizard-kobold from d&d 3.0/3.5 They size and familiarity with grenades makes the cayma very good candidate= s (specially if this cayma mercenaries uses smokepowder grenades). Only wondering =3D) > Hm?... Ahn! I have to disagree with this one (i know that The Savage Coast Campaign Boo= k says that arquebuses were rarely used and 18 years later the wheellock pistols were invented) Wheellock pistols are only common in Cimmaron, not so much, in Guadalante. If the pistols replaced the arquebuses, this may not happen yet in all the Savage Baronies/Renardy, since they are yet trying to master this tecnology= . Arquebuses are easier to make, not using the complicated wheellock mechanisms, and probably cheaper, specially if they are more common in Renardy/Savage Baronies (except Cimarron/Guadalante; it is difficult to use arquebuses on horseback, anyway). And even if not, arquebuses and pistols are different weapons, something like an dadder and a longsword. It's hard to say that one replaced the other =3D) So, even considering that arquebuses backfire (but propably this rarely happens; Red Steel Campaign Book states that Savage Coast's smokepowder probably helps the wheellock pistols not backfiring), i guess it wouldnt be strange to find arquebusiers soldiers. =3D) > I guess it could solve the problem, if they can fit both "giant rat-folk" > > and "mouse-folk". I just had an idea. Since Cayma and Kobolds have some chraracteristics in common (small size, chaotic tendencies mixed with attepnts to form somehow organised (but still chaotic) nations, both have Kurtulmak/Kutul cult in common) and there are no native kobolds in the Savage Coast and i need an "mousefolk" that is used with explosives grenades and caymas have grenades (not explosive, but grenades still...)... If kobolds once existed in the Yazak steppes (probably in small groups, pehaps just one tribe), they might had meet eventually the cayma. They migh= t brought some cultural traits to the cayma (like the worship of Kutul/Kurtulmak and the warrior caste linked to it). But what happened t= o them? They were very few and were absorved by the cayma, interbreeding with them. This originated a more agressive and territorial race (which name should we put in this race... hm... Kulma? kobold + cayma + Kutul... pehaps Cayma means "sons of Cay", then Kulma means "sons of Kutul"). They look lik= e an od&d/ad&d kobold, with some cayma traits and more "mouse-like" instead o= f "dog-like" and love fire and explosions (and worship them, as an Kutul symbol). so, they prefer using more lethal cayma grenades, explosive ones. Despite their inicial empathy, eventually both races, Cayma and Kulma, fighted each other. This ended with cayma victory and kulma banishment, tha= t spread like rats (hehe =3DD) in the other nations of the Savage Coast. They are weak and live in small tribes/mercenary companies, some working for these nations as mercenaries, some living as petty thieves in cities and roads between them. You are probably asking: why anyone would hire such unpleasant and weak things like Kulmas as mercenaries? Answer: their explosive grenades. This grenades are really unstable (specially the new ones, using smokepowder) an= d no one except an Kulma would dare use such weapon. So, why they use this explosives? Do they have any secrets that helps then not losing their hands (or worse, lives) while using this grenadies? Answer: No, they are crazy, almost suicide creatures, hehe =3DD So, what do you thing about this idea, folks? =3D) (By the way, in my last post, "dagger" instead of "dadder"... it is hard to not make mistakes while talking with my girlfriend =3DD hehe) ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2006 21:24:40 +0000 From: "agathokles@katamail.com" Subject: Re: Claw (Was: Re: [MYSTARA] Anyone do Red Steel?) > "Non-evil" kobolds, specially if you are using the lizard-kobold from d&d > 3.0/3.5 Well, OD&D Kobolds are not necessarily evil, like many other monsters (e.g., dragons). > Pehaps all "created" races can interbreed between thenselves and with > natural ones, but the natural (or slightly altered races; humans, lupins, > rakastas, dwarfs) can't do the same? Considering the extent of the collections and knowledge of the Mystara-philes here, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet then that the Creature Catalog entry is their sole entry anywhere in D&D lore. As for specifics, if you do a search on the Vaults for Qauriks, you should get a bunch of hits on ideas for where to place them. I think a general consensus is to place them in some frozen valleys in the Hyborean reaches. There was also some recent discussion of them on the MMB, too, so you might check there. Their description always brings to mind the people that Erekose encounters in "Phoenix in Obsidian" for some reason. --- Gilles Leblanc wrote: > Hi, I was recently browsing my old copy of DMR2 > Creature Catalog. It is information all about the next giant Adventure Path appearing in Dungeon magazine, and it has particular relevance to us Mystarans: "When your player characters defeat the Wormgod Kyuss at the pulse-pounding conclusion of the Age of Worms Adventure Path in this very issue, they will have rescued the world itself from an unspeakable danger. They end the campaign as sovereigns of their own nation, inheriting the problems of a kingdom beset on all sides by political and military challenges. From their posh palace chambers in Alhaster they'll look out with a mixture of pride and melancholy at the waters of the Lake of Unknown Depths, remembering the simplicity of their humble beginnings. Chances are strong your players will be looking for new challenges too. In four short months DUNGEON comes to the rescue with the Savage Tide Adventure Path, a 12-installment campaign designed to take charaters from the heady days of first level all the way to the responsibilities of level 20. Running every month from issue #139 to the milestone DUNGEON #150, the Savage Tide takes plauers on an ocean voyage that begins in the fecund southern jungles and leads deep into the heart of the treacherous Lower Planes. The action begins in the port city of Sasserine, where canny merchant princes exploit the natural wonder of a vast jungle at the very edge of civilization. There, the PCs find themselves in the employ of Lavinia Vanderborn, a young noble who has just inherited her family estate and colonial holdings after the tragic death of her parents. Her younger brother, Vanthus, has fallen in with a bad crowd, and after stealing an unusual black pearl from the trove of a pirate stronghold, he flees to the family's holdings on a distant tropical island - the Isle of Dread. Following Vanthus across the uncharted southern seas leads the PCs to the dinosaur-ridden island, where they discover that similar strange pearls have been placed in cities throughout the world. When the order is given, these pearls will discharge a massive burst of dehumanizing energy - the Savage Tide - that will turn ordinary citizens into cannibalistic savages. Exploration of the treacherous Isle of Dread and the mysterious plateau at its center represent a major portion of the campaign, but the PCs will have little time to grow complacent, as pirates and the treacherous Vanthus harry the Vanderboren colony. An attempt to stop the pirates leads to Scuttlecove, a scurvy town of buccaneers, yuan-ti, and worse. The PCs thwart the menace of the pirate fleet, only to discover that Vanthus has kidnapped his sister and taken her to the Abyssal realm of his patron, Demogorgon, Prince of Demons and architect of the Savage Tide. By unleashing waves of madness and rage throughout the Material Plane, Demogorgon hopes to reconcile the feuding personalities of his two heads and increase his standing in the Great Wheel. To defeat the most powerful of demon princes, the PCs must negotiate a planar conspiracy aimed at weakening him in his own lair and destroying him once and for all. An all-star array of our favorite game designers and DUNGEON contributors are already hard at work on the adventures. Managing Editor James Jacobs, author of last issue's "Into the Wormcrawl Fissure" and the silent puppetmaster behind most DUNGEON adventures, will contribute the first installment, "There is No Honor," in DUNGEON #139. That issue also comes with a poster map of Sasserine and a backdrop describing the locale in detail, the first of several to come throughout the series. James's adventure will be followed by installments from Nicolas Logue, Richard Pett, Jason Bulmahn, Stephen S. Greer & Gary Holian, F. Wesley Schneider & James Sutter, Tito Leati, Keith Baker, Sean K Reynolds, Eric L. Boyd, Wolfgang Baur, and Greg A. Vaughn. As with the Age of Worms, a companion series of articles aimed at players will appear in the pages of DRAGON, and lively discussion will take place on paizo.com. In fact, by the time you get this, a new Savage Tide message board is already in operation. After defeating Kyuss and the Age of Worms, you and your players have earned a few months off. But don't get too comfortable. The Savage Tide is just around the corner!
