These could also become relevant in a standard Mystara campaign in the form of recovered artifacts or undead remnants of Blackmoor... Some more ideas on Technomancy (Steampunk, Clockwork etc) for the Blackmoor campaign: Technomancy: To the wizards of Blackmoor, technology is nothing but an extention of magic, related to Alchemy. The Wizards and Sages of Blackmoor University work with the Uberstar Dwarves to produce the wonders of the North, including golem-like pets, servants and guardians as well as a range of other devices. Tainted Technomancy The other main source of Technomancy comes from the Land of Coot. The Egg, an entity of unknown origin, is a known manufacturer of technomantic devices, though these are believed to be of a twisted, dark nature. Steamtech limbs or other body parts are often placed on undead or half-dead warriors, painfully grafting blades, axes or other weaponry to their bodies. The Egg's legions are also known to have gun-powder based siege weapons and steamtech ships (See Wizard's Cabal), and these items are also believed to be of an infernal nature. The Ran of Ah Fooh, once a servant of the Egg is said to have brought this tainted technomancy to the Duchy of Ten. It is possible that such items have now fallen into the possession of the Afridhi. Comments? Any ideas to what sort of twisted technology the servants of the Egg may possess? My take on the The Father of Demons is that its another name for Loki, since he in Norse Mythology is known as the father (or mother) of the Midgard Serpent, the Fenris wolf, Hel, Sleipnir(Odin's eightlegged horse) etc. But it would make sense if someone else originally created the Svartalfar if this happened before Loki became an immortal. I'd go with Hel rather than Thanatos though. For game mechanical purposes I might make the Svartalfar Elves with the Infernal Template and the Ljosalfar (Light elves) Celestial Elves. IMC, the Ljosalfar were elves who decided to leave Evergrun and serve Odin. Later Freyj was given command over the Ljosalfar. Another theory could be that the Light and Dark Elves are something similar to Einherjar, elven heroes who have died and become servants of Freyj or Loki... I'd like to see these take a more prominent position on Mystara... Reading the new Denagoth Gaz I see that they have yet another take on Light elves and Dark elves, so I remain undecided. Any other thoughts on this? Hm. Described as a village and a town in the same sentence. I'd assume it's just a village, since it's so tiny. Edgewater was built around a library, "the sole legacy of a group of monks, the Koholorian Brotherhood, who were dedicated to the preservation of knowledge." That's all the information, really, outside of the adventure itself (which doesn't expand upon TR any further). Thought I'd mention it, though, for the sake of the TR Project. *** Now, I am curious about this Koholorian Brotherhood. Does anyone have suggestions to where they may have come from? Could they shed some light on Mystic/Monk characters in Thunder Rift, or should the "sole legacy" statement be taken as meaning nothing beyond the library remains in the valley? Note that Cayma are reptiles (a form of small-sized lizard-kin), so Cayma-Kobold interbreeding would hardly be possible without magic (goblinoids are mammals). Moreover, a crossbreed would develop canine-reptiloid features, like 3e Kobolds, rather than the required mouse-like form. I'd rather keep them as full-blooded Kobolds, possibly a western variant with slightly mouse-like features. The rest of the history could still be used, with these kobolds being originally found north of Cay, and then transported to Renardie (or wherever they are needed for the Claw plot) by L.B. merchants (there's one colony on the coast west of Cay). I suggested this because kobolds are officialy not native in the Savage Coast and this mouse-like kobolds have much in common with caymas. But the interbreed hardly would result in mouse-like kobolds, if possible, as you said. I'd rather keep them as full-blooded Kobolds, possibly a western variant > with slightly mouse-like features. I guess if they are descendants of kobolds but different enough, they could be considered an different raceand, thus, not conflict with the cannon information that there are no kobolds in the Savage Coast =3D) The rest of the history could still be used, with these kobolds being > originally found north of Cay, and then transported to Renardie (or > wherever they are needed for the Claw plot) by L.B. merchants (there's > one colony on the coast west of Cay). Yes, as LB mercenaries, i like this idea. This would give then a propose to leave Cay instead of fighting to the death the not-so-friendly-now cayma (especially because of the instability of their grenadies, death would propably be their destiny, hehe =3DD). First Seaview, then the rest of the Savage Coast. Anyway, thy are not an vital part of the game, just an funny addition. We could simply ignore their existence in this adaptation too. Even if they do exist, their race would be quite rare, anyway. I just noticed that bugbears are not mentioned anywhere in Red Steel/Savage Coast books. Curious... Pehaps, then there are bugbears there, but not amon= g the Yazak/Yazi/Yazug goblinoids, but in Dunwick (since some goblinoids live there). But how an very chaotic bugbear becomes, at least in part, an civilised being? Another question, if an Inheritor becames afflicted, all the detriment effects of his legacies manifests? Some of then are contradictory... And what about if an Afflicted becomes an Inheritor without removing the detriment effects? Will he adquire more detriment effects? Fascinated with this new form of magic, they have completely abandoned their heritage, and become obsessed with technomantic items. These are the predecessors of the Blacklore Elves from the Hollow World boxed set. They are described as a remnant of the elves living near Blackmoor preserved in the Hollow World, now completely reliant on technomagical toys. I thought they might be interesting to bring into a Blackmoor campaign. What do you think? How would other elves react to this new group of heretics? Would they bring anything new and useful into the realm of technomancy?
