But why the bugbears were left out of Red Steel? They're not a major race to begin with. The only known bugbear nation in Mystara is Bugburbia in the Broken Lands, and even there Bugbears are only 50% or so of the population. So I suppose they are present, usually mixed with hobgoblin or goblin tribes. > And if this Afflicted chraracter that became an Inheritor, when this > happened, he lost 8 points from the apropriate ability score? I think he would keep whatever ability score penalty he already had, and roll for additional penalties when new legacies are acquired. However, this would not be a common case. First of all, Inheritor only train beginning characters, and have strict requirements on the applicants. But, more importantly, the Inheritors have plenty of Cinnabryl and the knowledge to help people recover from Affliction, so a candidate for joining would not be exposed to the effects of imbibing the legacy-stimulating potion when Affliction would result. > By the way, an Immortal equivalency list: > ----------------------------------------------------------------- > Tanaka - Verdan/Espa - "Real" Name > > Iemanjá - Iara - Calithia Starbrow > Ogum - Fanha/Faña - Vanya > Oxum - Valérias - Valerias > Xangô - A Juíza/La Jueza - Tarastia > Yav - *** - Yav > > Apparently Yav haven't find its place among Los Guardianos religion and > ended forgotten. I'd also consider Masauwu/The Ambassador as Exu'. Yes, I guess so. I was just considering the idea of Red Tail (Arch-enemy of Claw) beign an Afflicted (Animal Form Legacy and, at the same time, an Inheritor from the Order of the Flame. As an pirate, this actually uses his appearance much like Blackbeard (as an trademark and a way to inflict terror to both servants and enemies), since leonine rakasta are not native to the Savage Coast. But I guess it is best to consider him as an leonine rakasta that somehow ended here in the Savage Coast and became an Inheritor (he is the only leonine rakasta that appears in Claw). By the way, what are the name o= f this rakastas subrace? > By the way, an Immortal equivalency list: > > ----------------------------------------------------------------- > > Tanaka - Verdan/Espa - "Real" Name > > > > Iemanj=E1 - Iara - Calithia Starbrow > > Ogum - Fanha/Fa=F1a - Vanya > > Oxum - Val=E9rias - Valerias > > Xang=F4 - A Ju=EDza/La Jueza - Tarastia > > Yav - *** - Yav > > > > Apparently Yav haven't find its place among Los Guardianos religion and > > ended forgotten. I guess we can solve this considering Ogum as The General and Vanya as Ians=E3. But Xang=F4/Tarastia problem persists. I'd also consider Masauwu/The Ambassador as Exu'. I couldn't agree more! And I have to say i'm quite surprised too, hehe =3D= ) But do you agree with Milan/Mealiden situation? Or am I being too limited i= n my point of view? =3D) ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 May 2006 12:33:58 +0200 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: Claw (Was: Re: [MYSTARA] Anyone do Red Steel?) OTOH, leonine Rakasta are native to the southern continent of Davania, not that far from the Savage Coast, so it is possible that he was originally from that region. Note that this character seems not to have a tail. A missing (cut off) tail is the mark of exiled Simbasta. Maybe Red Tail was exiled from the Simbasta tribes when he was young, and joined a pirate crew in Kastelios or Garganin. > I guess we can solve this considering Ogum as The General and Vanya as > Iansã. But Xangô/Tarastia problem persists. Though the General is Thor, who also happens to be the lord of thunder elsewhere. So, if any, Thor should be Xango rather than Ogum. > But do you agree with Milan/Mealiden situation? Or am I being too limited in my point of view? =) Mealiden is a nice patron of swashbucklers and adventurers in general, and most likely also of elves. Definitely not a patron of the sea, though. The familiarity of the format brings back a sense of nostalgia and sets the mood of the original gaz series. So much great fan material is out there, but having it collected in volumes like this makes it easier to organize. Also, I like how the volumes aren't too long either, which sometimes makes it hard to make it through the entire book. While I love the MAs, the sheer length of the latest editions nearly killed me. After reading through wikipedia (portuguese version, since the english version doesn't seem to help much), I'd say: Tanaka Standard name ----------------------------------------- Iemanjá Calithia Starbrow Iansa Vanya Oxum Valerias Xangô Thor Orunmila'-Ifa' Yav Exu' Masauwu Ogum Halav? Note that there are several choices for Ogum, including Thor and Kaarash. However, Halav is also noted as patron of metalworkers -- see his story in Traladara, and could have arrived in Yavdlom from Kladanavic and Slagovic. Other Immortals could also fit, like Protius. And Korotiku might have a role as a creator god, since he was the original patron of the Tanagoro. (Not all of these Immortals need to be widely worshipped -- some might just be acknowledged) Bye, GP ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 May 2006 16:48:03 -0300 From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?=C1tila_Pires_dos_Santos?= Subject: Re: Claw (Was: Re: [MYSTARA] Anyone do Red Steel?) A missing (cut off) tail is the mark of exiled Simbasta. > Maybe Red Tail was exiled from the Simbasta tribes when he was young, > and joined a pirate crew in Kastelios or Garganin. Interesting. He is an Simbasta Inheritor pirate then =3D) Indeed, apparently he don't have an tail (not even an red one, hehe) and this seen to be very likely. Again, this can't be just coincidence =3D) Curiously, Simba means lion in Swahili (Yavdlom major source of names) I vote for Kastelios, but this is only personal taste. By the way, Kastelio= s and Kast=E9llion (Crete) under Venice rule, does both have any connection? > I guess we can solve this considering Ogum as The General and Vanya as > > Ians=E3. But Xang=F4/Tarastia problem persists. > > Though the General is Thor, who also happens to be the lord of thunder > elsewhere. So, if any, Thor should be Xango rather than Ogum. That's true. I was thinking Xang=F4 as Tarastia because his justice/retribution aspect. But Thor seen to be our best option, since both are associated with thunder and Thor too are a LN Immortal. I agree with you =3D) > But do you agree with Milan/Mealiden situation? Or am I being too > > limited in my point of view? =3D) > > Mealiden is a nice patron of swashbucklers and adventurers in general, > and most likely also of elves. Definitely not a patron of the sea, though= . I guess the original idea was the association between swashbucklers and seafarers (both don't use heavy armor, for example). But considering Vilaverde and Texeiras focus on seafaring, they should have an more aproprieated Immortal to auxiliate their feats, like Iara/Calithia Starbrow =3D) On 5/4/06, Giampaolo Agosta wrote: > > After reading through wikipedia (portuguese version, since the english > version doesn't seem to help much), Hope this site help you better http://www.umbandaracional.com.br/pesqorixas.html =3D) > I'd say: > > Tanaka Standard name > ----------------------------------------- > Iemanj=E1 Calithia Starbrow > Iansa Vanya > Oxum Valerias > Xang=F4 Thor > Orunmila'-Ifa' Yav > Exu' Masauwu > Ogum Halav? Again, i'm quite impressed ;) Thanks for the ideas I maintained Yav original name because of Yavdlom history. But i guess If= =E1 could easly derivates from Yav, and Yav being called Orunmil=E1-If=E1 by th= e Oiob=E1 people. Considering this, Oiob=E1 couls use the name Babawalo inste= ad Ramla for their seers (since Ramla have an Swahili orign. Most of Yavdlom names have this Swahili orign, except Gwandoya (Means "met with misery" in Luganda) and Yav itself (pehaps from Yaw, "born on Thursday" in Akan). Pehaps Thanegia island is like Swahili and Serpent Peninsula, like other african peoples, like Luganda or Iorub=E1) Note that there are several choices for Ogum, including Thor and > Kaarash. However, Halav is also noted as patron of metalworkers -- see > his story in Traladara, and could have arrived in Yavdlom from > Kladanavic and Slagovic. I guess Halav is, indeed, the best option, especially considering that the traladarans are so close. But Ogum is normally seen as an more agressive, warrior deity, more than the "paladin-like" view traladarans have of Halav. Something more like Vanya. But this details tends to change in different cultures, anyway (Mealiden/Milen being an good example) > Other Immortals could also fit, like Protius.
