Or they never stopped worshipping Vanya, Tarastia, Calithia... I'd keep the Traladarns as Halav-worshippers. I know there's a need to explain the Bellayne pantheon, but I think it's not related with the Traladaran one. My explanation of the Bellayne pantheon is in my Lawful Brotherhood article: http://www.pandius.com/h_lawbro.html > Pehaps Obaluaê is Chardastes and Omolu (the "old version" of Obaluaê) is one > of this sadistic Immortals =) > Which one do you prefer? =) Maybe Yagrai -- he has an aspect of resurrection/regeneration. > By the way, I guess verdans probably would worship Calithia even before > having contact with the phanatons or the oiobá people. Then she should have > an verdan name... Following the names that other Guardianos Immortals have, > she could be called The Mairmaid/A Sereia. There's a problem here: Calitha is not known in Thyatis, where the sea god is Protius. So it's more likely, IMO, that the original sea patron of the Ispans (the Verdans only emerged as a separate linguistic group in the last century, more or less) was Protius. Maybe originally they weren't much interested in the sea (see Narvaez -- they're mostly knights), so when they mixed with the Yavi and developed sailing skills, they chose the Yavi sea goddess rather than the Thyatian Protius. > Funny, I just realised the entropic immortals you mentioned above sound like > this tupi deities. Pehaps Jurupari is Jammudaru, Yagrai is Abacaí and > Anhangá is Leptar? =) Could be, though I'd also consider their respective portfolios (revenge, death and resurrection, violence). Here I can't help much -- my knowledge of Tupi mythology nears zero, and the Internet doesn't help as well :( Bye, GP ________________________________________________________________________ SERVIZIO VOICE: TELEFONA e INVIA SMS dal tuo computer a tariffe vantaggiose! Just some ideas =) Also, if it is not already the major (only?) church, you need to define where it comes from -- another Rakasta nation (e.g., Myoshima?) most likely. If it's the major established church, then consider that Queen Catherine is not nicknamed "The Lioness" just for her looks -- she will be trying to promote secularization of the Bellaynish society in order to wrestle power out of the hands of the priesthood. How overt she can be in her efforts depends on the power of the church. My explanation of the Bellayne panth= eon > is in my Lawful Brotherhood article: > http://www.pandius.com/h_lawbro.html Very interesting! This explains A LOT! =3D) But then the name Bellayne comes from Pax Bellanica? And Slag corresponds t= o English? Italian/Latim? Both? If corresponds to English, than the Romance vocabulary that English has came from Thyatian rather than Renardois? And what about Rakastayne? By the way, the Neutral Alliance and the Chaotic Sisterhood have any connection with this events? Or appeared only with the first inheritos? > Maybe Yagrai -- he has an aspect of resurrection/regeneration. Sorry, I was thinking in one thing and typed another. I was thinking that verdans might took a while to discover Jibar=FA; So it is unlikely that verdans uses the name Iara for Calithia (except for B=EAn=E7=E3o, pehaps, w= here both names could be used, Iara and the standard verdan name). But, indeed, Calithia isn't a thyatian Immortal. So the verdans might had learned about Calithia with the native elves or the oiob=E1 (that probably started worshipping Calithia because of the Sheyallia in the first place). But I was thinking about the verdans having their own name for Calithia. Considering the existence of "Ba=EDa da Sereia", pehaps the name they use i= s "A Sereia"/"The Mermaid", following the other Immortals' native names, like O Embaixador/The Ambassador But if you have any other suggestions to her name among the verdans, please let me know =3D) > Could be, though I'd also consider their respective portfolios (revenge, > death and resurrection, violence). > Here I can't help much -- my knowledge of Tupi mythology nears zero, and > the Internet doesn't help as well :( I guess i don't know much about this evil deities as well (I just discovere= d their existence two days ago, hehe). I'll try to learn more about them and then let you know what I discovered =3D) By the way, did you found out when Bastet came back to Mystara? =3D) ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 May 2006 10:58:43 -0700 From: "Ohad Shaham (Morphail)" Subject: Re: Kara-Kara I remember being in New Zealand and seeing Maoris dance an "authentic Maori dance". Even though it was a tourist attraction, my imagination made me think of savage, toothed-sword wielding orcs with a bent to eat me alive. All that said, I do not think any less of Maori/pacific people simply because I once DMed "The Isle of Dread"... I think that racism only applies to real-world analogies to fantasy (demonic jews and so forth) and not the other way around (circumsized Bataazu? I am OK with that!). The Kara Kara have a civilisation that is inspired (vaguely) by polynesian peoples of the 17th century, I don't think anyone in their right minds will make the ilogical connection and attribute anything "orcish" to anyone of polynesian ethnicity.
