In other words, I've always assumed people can choose to fail their saving throws if they want to. > Endnote: > I don't have any problem with the players fooling around with magic. Forcing them to play by some arbitrary code of conduct would only sour the play. And I've come up with countermeasures :) Well one problem I see is they've wasted their Silence spell... so I guess if they have to go up against spell casters, then they've lost something. Either way, I don't think it's too unbalanced to use Silence this way. Put a collar on the rat with short lines and hooks, so you can silence it and throw it at a spellcaster. The rat and the silence is stuck - without having to worry about those saving throws. Yeah, I don't know about that one. Maybe they need another spell to get it to "stick." I don't think they should be able to just use lines and hooks and expect it to be able to stick very easily. Anyway, if they're going through this much trouble, they should just create their own silence spell that you can cast on objects. Magic resistance is a chance of fail and cannot normally be lowered, but Saving Throws can be failed voluntarily (assuming the target is aware of the spellcasting).
