I think I started more like around 1990 - 1991, but honestly I don't remember. I thought AD&D 1st Ed was decent enough. I think the 1st Ed rulebooks are a treasure for any old school D&D fan. -- http://heroesonly.com/ | http://bitfreedom.com/ ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2007 18:12:07 -0400 From: Angelo Bertolli Subject: Mystara Web Ring I've been on the Mystara Web Ring for a long time, but I absolutely hate the Web Ring site interface. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or talk about how to make nice-looking PDFs to publish things on the web. With all the new technology, I get pretty envious when I see things that are being made, and I can't help but wonder how they do they layouts so well. In particular, I'm especially curious about how OD&Dities was done. Speaking of published works online, I think some of you may be interested in this (and probably have seen it): http://basicfantasy.org/ It's basically a d20 version of the OD&D rules, made by Chris Gonnerman et al. (Who, by the way, also makes very nice PDFs.) I've been really impressed with this, and I'm really tempted to start using Basic Fantasy and start producing gaming materials for it instead of OD&D. Don't hate me for that! I just like the idea of something like classic D&D being under the open game license. You and I never really talked, but I was on the Mystara 3E group for a period of time (wasn't it at Yahoo Groups?) I really mostly joined so I could learn how to play with the new ruleset since I'm incredibly retarded when it comes to these new rules. But there wasn't too much talk, I seemed to just get the same 3 - 5 files emailed to me periodically, so I ended up dropping off. People like me would mostly be interested in seeing something that gets OD&D players up to speed with the new rules. For example, if a DM running an OD&D game wanted to switch over, they would have a resource to point their players to in order to make things easier. The two major goals of the original project, which I have no reason to change, were: 1) To provide a concrete set of rules for converting existing OD&D material to d20 system. 2) To present Mystara as a d20 campaign setting for DMs and players who were new to D&D with the advent of the 3rd-Ed rules. It sounds like you joined the yahoo group sometime after work on the original project had faded away. We did develop some OD&D to 3E conversion guidelines for 0D&D races& classes before that happened though. You can find the details on the "3E Conversions" page of the M3E web site (http://www.mystara.jamm.com/pages/conversions.htm). :-j(enni) -- Jenni A.M.
