Here’s a report of yesterday’s yearly MystaraCon held in Milano, Italy. Five Mystaran people were present this year: Agathokles, Verro Diabolico (=Devil Swine), fkaftal, Magdaléne (the latter’s wife, a well known Glantrian killer based in Specularum) and Grandma Tecla (our friend Angelo, inGame Annis witch in my campaign in Karameikos). Notwithstanding the last minute disattending of La Volpe, DM, Ekrenor (the latter was excused, as he’s living in Flaemish countries and failed to memorize any Teletransport or Gate) as well as many others (whom we’re willing to see among us next time we’re helding our Convention), the day was spent pleasantly, handling rare boxed sets (Mark of Amber, Hail the Heroes, Night of the Vampire) - no, we didn’t dance on those audio CDs – and mega copies of related maps (per those who are to buy .pdf downloads) plus a home made Italian translation by DM of Alfheim Gaz5 (outstandingly realized, with arts and everything). Of course, we are Italians, so we couldn’t avoid wining and dining together, thanks to Magdaléne’s work. Happily, we all made our saving throws against her (poor) Handicraft [Poisons] attempt. One Shot For the first time, at MystaraCon we did PLAY: yes, I mastered a 1 hour dungeon crawling (unrefined, as per having been prepared quickly the night before; yet, an adventure): four foreigners, all of them 1st level, come to Treshold, in Search of Adventure: BHIMA (sheid) [Agathokles] and SITA (female warrior, lightly armed) [Loredana, aka Magdaléne], from Sind; SLIP (half-orc warrior, with the classic 2 hands greatsword) [Angelo] from Cruth mountains; BASIL (bard gnome) [il Verro], from Highforge. They’re approached at a local pub by a dark haired guy in his thirties, neatly dressed, who offers them a bottle of aged rhon from "Trouscan Residences", then introduces himself as an alchemist looking for components in outdoor grottoes and offers them a bodyguard job, to difend him from a dangerous enchantress, who lives in the neighbourhood and devours people: outside, a white-haired beauty; inside, a foul blood-thirsty creature. Left the first dangers behind (a black bear in the forest, giant rats at the cave entrance) and won the first trasures (half-orc Slip searches the bear’s stomach and finds a ring of protection +1; Basil the gnome copycats him by looking in the rats’ intestines and gets a typhoid fever +3, luckily with a one-week delay), our PCs together with the alchemist notice some huge spiderwebs. Please note that among spontaneous gags (Sita: "Go ahead you, tiny bit"; Basil: "No, sorry, why me? I just can’t see where are you getting...", Sita: "This way you’ll see the spider better, won’t you?") – which, on the other hand, show a perfect logic - our PCs manage to avoid a Goblin tribe, wisely living protected behind a row of close stalagmites (while cautious Slip thought about breaking them…). Slip quickly defeats a dangerous green slime, instantly making use of a torch instead of his valued blade: we are still wondering whence the clever half-orc got such a brilliant hint, whether thanks to his grades in Knowledge [Bardic], Knowledge [Local], or Knowledge [Monster Manual]. Eventually, the meeting with the huge spider: Slip uselessly whirls his greatsword round, Sita repeatedly attempts probing the cave walls with her arrows, Basil (after finishing his cantrips) extracts his banjo and starts playing (he reminds me of Elan, of the Order of the Stick), while Bhima boldly tries to mount the spider in acrobatics, only to ending up prey of its pedipalps and being forced to retreat in extremis. In the meanwhile, their alchemist client casts a few protecting spells on himself. Eventually, thanks to +1 bonus from our goatee banjoed tiny bit’s country songs, the spider gets squashed. Finally our alchemist finds the right grotto, the one with the reddish salts he’s looking for, and here comes the witch, disguised as a white-haired beauty with armour, shield and a mace in her hand. Provoked by verbal offence from Cavalier Slip, the albino creature runs towards him shouting: "The horror: a half-orc!". But the brave Slip, with a single hit of his sharpened greatsword perforates her to death. Conclusion: our heroes have survived their ordeal: the adventure has happily concluded. Their customer, on paying them, compliments: "Thanks, I knew I’d made the right choice with you foreigners, you’ve swept a wicked curse out of this city: by bringing in town the head of this foul witch, Alina Halàravna, you’ll be for sure celebrated by the people of Treshold. Farewell, and remember: your friend Bargle is committed with you!" Sounds like you guys had a great time, I would have loved to be there (in spite of my lack of knowledge in Italian). The cooking: What was on the menu? Real italian food? Im sure it was yummy :) The scenario: Sounds like a fun game. I like the idea of a monster taking shape of a beautiful woman. There's a reason that concept is a classic, but not used nearly enough in gaming. And a fun twist at the end. I hope Aleena was resurrected later on... ;) Havard --- Federico Kaftal skrev: > Dear friends! > > Here’s a report of yesterday’s yearly MystaraCon > held in Milano, Italy. > Five Mystaran people were present this year: > Agathokles, Verro Diabolico (=Devil Swine), fkaftal, Magdaléne (the latter’s > wife, a well known Glantrian killer based in Specularum) and Grandma > Tecla (our friend Angelo, inGame Annis witch in my campaign in Karameikos). > Notwithstanding the last minute disattending of La > Volpe, DM, Ekrenor (the latter was excused, as he’s living in Flaemish > countries and failed to memorize any Teletransport or Gate) as well as many > others (whom we’re willing to see among us next time we’re helding our > Convention), the day was spent pleasantly, handling rare boxed sets (Mark of > Amber, Hail the Heroes, Night of the Vampire) - no, we didn’t dance on those > audio CDs – and mega copies of related maps (per those who are to buy > .pdf downloads) plus a home made Italian translation by DM of Alfheim Gaz5 > (outstandingly realized, with arts and everything). > > Of course, we are Italians, so we couldn’t avoid > wining and dining together, thanks to Magdaléne’s work.
