Let's use the 10c for a comparison. According to wikipedia, it should = be at 4.10 grams and made of an alloy (nordic gold, a type of bronze) with = a density of 8.54 grams/cm3 (if I've done the computations right). In that = case, a similarly sized silver coin would weigh some 5 grams, a gold one about 9.25 grams, and a platinum one 10.3 gr= ams (all assuming very pure metals). what is the formula for a coin's volumne? Is it just the formula for the a= rea of one side times the thickness? I had not planned on going into much detail on purity and such, just assumi= ng all countries mint to a similar finness, except where specifically noted= otherwise. I agreed with Chris Cherrington in that beyond that would be t= oo much detail but if someone wants to expand that please do....=20 >> If you look in K:KoA at the sidebar on page 103, both the golden=20 >> Royal and the electrum Halav are similar looking, hexagonal=20 >> shaped coins. > OTOH, the GAZ Royal is round, IIRC. hmm, thats an interesting contradiciton... >> so there ARE differences between the SCCB and the Red Steel=20 >> Campaign book. > I see the korun and halav under Eusdria, does=20 >> Eusdria have some traladaran > Not at all. There is a formatting error in SCCB -- all entries in the firs= t row are misplaced by one table slot. Thus, the Korun should be under "Sla= govich", and the Crown under "Bellayne". > Eusdria has no connection at all with Traladara, being an M-Frank/Saxon na= tion. ahh, I see. Looking at the other entries in that case... Levu I guess is m= eant to be an imitation of the RW Romanian Leu or Lev which I belive is fro= m the latin Leo or Lion because a popular coin in romania for a while was t= he dutch rijksdaaler (spelling?) which featured a heraldic lion. Viller so= unds familiar but I can't place it in the RW off the top of my head and I h= ave no idea for Stonik. As for in-game reasoning, could any of the three names refer to leaders of = the migration? Or how's this rough idea for the levu: Perhaps when foundin= g the cities a cave, home to a lion den, was found nearby. After the lions= were chased off a vein of electrum was found inside and a profitable mine = arose? Of course there's also nothing saying we have to keep the Lion->Leo= ->Le(u/v)->Levu connections intact. =3D?ISO-8859-1?Q?=3DC1tila_Pires_dos_Santos?=3D wrote: >> which one is the one repeated in the almanacs? I think that pehaps the best equivalent for a powerful but small/= naval state may be Harbourtown (especially because they're pro-thyatians un= til the Silver Purge anyway), while the traladaran city-states are quite li= ke the balkans under Venice influence (and the modern SC city-states perpet= uates this). But, of course, Darokin may also use much of RW italia, especi= ally the southern states since Darokin by this time is much more like a reg= ular medieval kingdom than a mercantile nation I need to learn more about Minrthad's history before I feel comfortable try= ing to descirbe their coinage history.
