And I can't help notice a lot of parallels between it and the classic "Basic" D&D. The most notable to me is that new books have the same sort of "feel" to them and the D&D Rules Cyclopedia. Even the new generic D&D world seems very Mystara like to me. 4th Ed "Epic Destinies" have a look and feel to them that remind me of the quests for Immortality. The elves are slight different than "Oerth" elves and in a way remind me of the way they were always described in the Mystara books. Not to mention D&D4 have level progressions to 30 now. 3.x went to 20 but BD&D went to 36. We are currently playing a 3.5 game set in a modified version of Mystara (something like 550 AC) and I know my DM is going to want to convert over to 4th ed. Could this be the start of a Mystaraian renaissance? I mean look at this group. There are tons of discussions here and now about how the world lives on. The other lists are totally dead and when they are active it is to complain about how their world is not the main world anymore. I have only read them. Pathfinder is IMO, the best adventure module brand you can buy right now. Paizo, the last publishers of print Dragon and Dungeon, are developing their own campaign world and publishing a monthly book which contains an adventure along with background material. Six books make up an adventure path taking a party from level 1 to level 15. The next six books start in a new region. Because the adventures are so rich I am thinking I would prefer to run them in Paizo's world then Mystara. It is only the second set of products that compels me to upgrade to 3/3.5 at some point, the first being Savage Tide. But there is plenty of good stuff to convert to a Mystara campaign. (Rune Lord) Karzoug makes a good alphatian villain, rune giants are awesome, and the low level adventures for both Runelords and Crimson Throne can be set anywhere. Right now though I am running two Mystara campaigns, the first being B10 Nights' Dark Terror which will then migrate back to Soderfjord and the 2E Night Below boxset, and the second is going to move into the Hollow World series and then later Master of the Desert Nomads. So I am going to be busy for quite some time with my 80's and 90's material. On 5/29/08, Kelly, Joe wrote: > > I intend combining Curse of the Crimson Throne with my Freeport/Ierendi > story line. The Runelord series has a LOT of flavor to it. The adventures do an excellent job of evoking a specific atmospheric feel and their take on iconic monsters is worth the price of admission on its own. That said, the connections between them are tenuous at best and your players need to be mature and patient enough to handle some of the adventures (the haunted house in the 2nd adventure is one of the coolest sites that your players will ever get bored of). This answer seems to be coming up a lot recently - maybe it's time for something post-Vaults to take some of this slack? I can throw up some wiki software on mystara.us if you guys want. I've gotten away from self-hosting and have bought some professional hosting now, so it should be reliable. The 4th Ed stuff i have seen seem to give a much more story telling feel than the previous edition. And it was the story telling feel of OD&D/Mystara that kept me playing it so long. I do think that 4th Ed will make things significantly easier for me to convert my old Mystara material and perhaps Attachment Converted: "C:\doc\current.doc\email\attach\new campaign with my group1" > > Wow this list has gotten very active in the last few days. ;) > > Anyway I have been reading quite a bit on the new 4th Ed D&D. > And I can't help notice a lot of parallels between it and the classic > "Basic" D&D. > > The most notable to me is that new books have the same sort of "feel" to > them and the D&D Rules Cyclopedia.
