I just tried to conciliate all sources into a more coherent description of the gnolls ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyena > >> And also, why are the "Grey" Kobolds so penalized? > > Because Gaz 10 said so, hehe ;) > Grey kobolds is a good race for 1st level characters have some fun with, but, surely, not intended as a PC race =3D) Now I'm wishing even more that I had Gaz10. >> I had meant to imply that the Minrothadi's (or the minrothad region) had= a >> Crown before the founding of the modern guilds/modern nation. > > > I see. IIRC, there's nothing saying if there was any council for those city-states discuss about their common interests, but I guess they worked basically as a association of cities with common interests and motivations (I guess something like RW Hanseatic League). But that doesn't mean that they were too close or agreed about everying, since minrothians were pro-thyatians, while the alphatians were... well, alphatians ;) hmm.. this now gives me some ideas for reconciling Minrothad's currency sys= tem.... As for the Crona/Crown, perhaps the two human groups and the elves de-facto= adopted a common trade coin for the area, the Gold Crona, possibly even ba= sed on the Alphatian gold Crown? Thus later spreading the Crona/Crown to t= heir new trading partners in Traladara? Hi Vini, I suppose you should first look up the Glantri GAZ, and possibly G:KoM. There is a lot of stuff on the Great School of Magic. Great School of Magic articles at the Vaults: http://www.pandius.com/glantri.html#school Masters at the Great School of Magic (extends the descriptions of G:KoM): http://www.geocities.com/principalities_of_glantri/main/others.htm Radiance-related articles at the Vaults: http://www.pandius.com/glantri.html#radiance Hope it helps, GP ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2008 06:16:26 -0500 From: Greg Weatherup Subject: Magic and radiance; Broken Lands; Karameikan School of Magecraft Aloha, > 1) Magic and radiance > > How radiance affects magic, how the Glantrians use radiance on spellcasting, how Etienne achieved Immortality etc. I've always kind viewed the radiance as "Meta-magic" (spells that amplify o= r otherwise affect other magic), but much of the cannon sources view it as = partly the source of all magic. > I'm also personally VERY interested in Wild Magic.=20 what rule system are you using? I've played some wild magic under 2e, once= as a character and a couple times as a DM. As the character (It was a long dime ago) I remember that his house was bei= ng attacked by some mist-creature, I cast some spell, got a wild surge, rol= led the dice and the DM looked it up and it had that the "target forgets" o= r something to that effect and he ruled that the mist creature "forgot" to = control its volumne and dispersed too much and simply spread-out too much a= nd died as a result. The DM was very surprised then when it came time to a= ward xp from the encounter. He looked the creature up and was shocked to s= ee that it was enough xp to make my character jump from like 2nd level to 5= th (he was a rule stickler, so he went ahead and gave it to me anyhow thoug= h). As a DM i've always just kinda said "it comes from beyond the adri-varma" o= r some such, though once I did work up a back-story for one of the PC's whe= re he first activated his power during a moment of extreme grief during the= week-without magic at the climax of WotI when no other magic was working, = and then how he went on a sort of mini-quest to try to learn to control it = (albeit not very effectively). (see the Background at http://members.fortu= necity.com/gecko_g/kagemaru.html, it was actually the third version of the = characters background. I prefered my original write up, but the player did= n't, the player wrote another version which was good but not mystara-approp= riate, so we compromised on this version) > I thought on trying to link Radiance - and the green crystals - to it. What do u guys think? definately sounds plausible. > 2) Broken Lands > > What has been happening there for the last decades? last decades back from when? from the WotI timeframe? As I understand it, for the couple of decades prior to WotI- Thar consolida= ted power by breaking up high goblinies power, Thar launched a big invasion= of Glantri after sending some of the tribes to distract Darokin, and despi= te much initial success the effort bogged down and eventually the goblinoid= s retreated with lots of plunder. Then Thar starts a Thyatian style milita= ry reform and training system to prepare for the next big attack. > 3) School of Magecraft > > I love the School of Magecraft concept (I even bought a general 2nd ed material about that... "School of Wizardry" was the name?),=20 not familiar with that one. > but I have so far found so little material about the Karameikan one... The Krakatos school (in cannon at any rate) I believe only comes into being= AFTER WotI. Prior to that there is a magicians guild though. > I'd like to learn about OTHER Schools as well. Guess they have lots of them in Glantri and Alphatia? probably lots in Alphatia, and a few specialized ones in the Alphatian side= of the Isle of Dawn and Belissaria and the Alatians (ie school of air magi= c, metallurgical magic, alchemical magic, etc.) Greg "Gecko" Weatherup GWxup@excite.com Gecko_G@email.com http://members.fortunecity.com/gecko_g/ --=20 Want an e-mail address like mine? No problem, the descriptions are here ;) *Gnolls:* *Canis Erectus Meridionum:* Essencially light brown hair, with a natually black mohawk for older speciments. Usually wear panther skins around the waist and a leather belt. Found in most deserted areas. *Canis Erectus Septentrionum:* Darker brown, with reddish spots and a natually white mohawk. Usually wear sheep skins and dark grey or black cloacks. Common in northern regions. *Canis Erectus Hilaris:* Hunched; light brown hair with black spots, and a black snout. Always seem to giggle before attacking. Ocasionally grow a tan mohawk and wear bear skins. Common in most wilderness and South Gnollistan (Broken Lands). *Kobolds:* *Canis Minor Militaris:* Rusty brown scales and yellow eyes. Usually wear mismatched pieces or armor plates, or anything metallic offering some sort of body protection. Often paint their armor in bright colors, essencially as tribal markings. Well organized and disciplined, found in rugged or mountainous terrain (such as Kol). *Canis Minor Rapidus: *Common in hills or forested hills. More chaotic than *Militaris*, but far more daring. Black scales, or very dark green with blue shades; blue, green, or white manes, depending on age. Wear camouflaged garb. Great ambushers. *Canis Minor Numerus: *Neither sneaky nor organized, they make up for their weakness with sheer numbers. Fast reproducing. Scales are dark grey with muddy splotches. Often wear war paints and colorful plumes on their heads as tribal markings. Nomadic culture native of Atruaghin. > hmm.. this now gives me some ideas for reconciling Minrothad's currency > system.... > > As for the Crona/Crown, perhaps the two human groups and the elves > de-facto adopted a common trade coin for the area, the Gold Crona, possibly > even based on the Alphatian gold Crown? Thus later spreading the > Crona/Crown to their new trading partners in Traladara? Yes, I had completely forgotten that Alphatia also have a gold coin called Crown! Yes, that's a great idea, indeed, especially since neither nithians nor insuldal elves have the tradition of mint coins =) ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 27 Feb 2008 to 28 Feb 2008 (#2008-35) ***************************************************************
