There are few people who can truly lay claim on founding a new cultural form. This was a gargantuan achievement for those guys back then. All of us owe him and the other pioneers a great debt, even in our most reformist moments. Our both groups will raise a toast to the weary pilgrim. This really was a dark day for the gaming community. I had the honour of meeting him at GenCon a few years ago - truly a remarkable man who made time for anyone who stopped by his booth. Love him or hate him, he helped make roleplaying the cultural phenomenon it is today. His work turned me on to gaming longer ago than I care to admit, and I consider him a mentor of sorts in my writing. This really is the end of an era. Rest in Peace, Gary, and thanks for taking us all along for a wild ride. I could not agree more, even though I never managed to meet Gary. Gygax, R.I.P. I am definitely not a fan of celebrity. Gary was that to our community. He's one of the few famous people in the world I found interesting enough to want to meet. Always held out hope of joining a game he GMed at a con even if only to die underneath a massive granite block or get eaten by a grue twenty minutes into the game. ;) On 05/03/2008, la Volpe wrote: > Come on guys, we all know it's just a trick for him to join the rank of the Immortals without we mortals notice. > > But we know Gary! > You can't fool us! > > ... > ... > > We all love you man. > We all love you. > > Now, if you could just start providing me with spells... > :) > > Giulio > > > --------------------------------- > > --------------------------------- > L'email della prossima generazione? Thanks. I'm compiling a list of tributes to Gygax at http://heroesonly.com/memory-gary-gygax in case you have any more. I sure hope Pandius puts something up about it as well.
