As for the ancient egyptians- Most sources only have from greek egypt or more recent. From what I can find out (mostly from wikipedia), before the arrival of Alexander the Great, the ancient egyptians apparently used a weight system consisting of "deben" (the largest unit), "Qedety", and "Shaty" (the smallest unit). They also used lead in addition to copper, silver, and gold. And of course grain. I think it could be useful to develop some doulakki/traldar/nithian currency basics. Perhaps one or the other are the source of the quasi-decimal system for 10 units of copper equals 1 unit of silver, which in turn equals 1/20th a unit of gold, which is common to so many of the KW's currency systems in my version? (like how so many of the RW's european systems date back to the frankish 1/20/240) Thank you for the cannon info for minrothadi currency, I'll see how I can incorporate it. I think it's a great idea, especially for the Querts =3D) Of course on the other hand I would kinda like to see if old Nithian and/or > recent Minrothadi coins couldn't be a more widespread influence, as I talk > about in the intro to my file (I guess it's time to post the intro to my > file next - it needs a lot of editing yet though). It would also fits well, but then we would need which coins the ancient nithians had? HWR2 Kingdom of Nithia doesn't give a clue about that and, AFAIK, there's simly no canon info about that. I couldn't also findanything useful about RW ancient Egypt as well... Pehaps they adopted the Doulakki-Traldar currency? They don't neccessarily all have to have the same origin, though they > could. Perhaps the Ostlandic comes from the Minrothad and the Glantrian > from the Alphatian? Any other ideals? Yes, I think it's a likely origin for them, if they have a common origin, as you pointed. I don't know what Cannon info there is. What does Cannon say about > Minrothadi currency? GAZ9 has only a brief description of the minrothaddan currency: "Foreign currency, as well as gems and jewels, are acceptable specie in Minrothad, but a standard 5 percent conversion charge is added to the price of items paid for in this way. There is no fee charged for using local currency. Money changers are common in every city. They are carefully regulated by the government and are fairly honest, but their variable rate of exchange affects the value given for foreign currency. It is legal to bring Minrothaddan currency into the country, but visitors are not allowed to take out any in excess of 200 gp value. Local currency follows the standard system of equivalents for ease of trade. A crona is one gold piece, a byd is one electrum, a quert is one silver piece, and a plen is one copper." K:KoA also adds very little: "Coinage: Minrothad mints its own crona (a gp in the isles), the byd (ep), the quert (sp) and the plen (cp)." ******************************************************************** --=20 Want an e-mail address like mine?
