Seems it would make more senes as a= Barony. Come to think of it, most of the "Baronies" seem larger (size, po= pulation, and economic wise) and more improtant than most of the "Counties"= , throughout all of Thyatis (Mainland and IoD). odd... Is Stefan Karameikos ever > refered to as "Archduke Karameikos"? I'm reasonably certain that it would be Archduke Stefan, rather than (Title)(Family Name). But no, I'm pretty sure that from his first appearance in the D&D Expert Set, he was always just called "Duke", not "Archduke". My guess would be that as the plain, blunt man that he is, Stefan scorns the more elaborate title. Or possibly he was always intending to crown himself King, and didn't want to waste time with a lesser title. > County status for little Furmenglaive? Seems it would make > more senes as a Barony. It's explicitly stated in the D&D Companion rules that a dominion ruler who founds his/her dominion can choose whatever title he/she wants, though other rulers might object. Most starters call themselves Barons, but it's not impossible that some called themselves Counts ... and the Barons ended up with better picks that made them richer than their more audacious colleagues. Such is the way it is in the Birthright setting... It isn't too much to think that in Mystara, the Thyatin Empire could have a unique system of title all it's own. ----- Original Message ---- From: Chris Davies To: MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 9:54:20 AM Subject: Re: [MYSTARA] Thyatian dominion 'Rank' --- Greg Weatherup wrote: > Aloha, > > >I've checked DotE, there is no difference: Westrourke is a > Grand > >Duchy, but the ruler is /Archduke/ Donegal Firestorm (who is > indeed > >Thincol's nephew, BTW). > >The same goes for Ochalea and Pearl Islands. > >Basically, the domain is always a Grand Duchy, but the ruler > is always > >and Archduke. > >This usage as no basis in RW, though. > > now aint that peculiar......
