(DoD vs. GAZ2 vs. etc.) I am liking the Mad Dervish idea. It fits in nice. The idea for the tie-in to the desert nomads is quite intriguing, because at some point the desert nomads should have a foothold, spies, etc. into every nation. They would be shape shifters as well as regular agents. However, look at the I3-5 write-up. It makes these fanatics (1) protectors of any faith, and as such (2) protect against tomb raiding. In their write-up, they are Lawful Neutral (meaning orderly or ethical, and neither bending towards evil or good). The other order supports a single God (Immortal) and rejects other faiths. It pits these two factions against each other, so the players will ultimately befriend one faction, while alienating the other. So beyond the dervish, there's these two factions... I'm trying to think how to fit them in. One thing I was thinking, is that whatever happened in the past (Thanatos, corruption, revenge of Immortals) created the desert, so naturally there would be a disdain for worshipping the old gods, regardless of good or bad immortals. ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jul 2009 03:34:27 -0700 From: Joaquin Menchaca Subject: [Ylaruam] How could one integrate Symbayans? In the combined book, I3-5 Deserts of Desolation, they re-title these groups as Raurinndi vs. Durpari and emphasize more of the conflict between the two: The Raurindi are described "as a people, the Raurindi became nearly extinct when their lands turned to desert millennia ago. Those left became desert nomads, a dark people, rough from the desert winds and sands" and "some of teh Raurindi cling secretly to the old ways. Called Dervishes..." (5) This totally sounds like ancient Nithian that survived. I like that "mad dervish" train of thought. If anyone has ideas for Raurindi (Nithian) that'd be way cool. I'm developing some ideas. The Durpari sound like modern day Ylaruam, in aspects of trade, true faith, and religious intolerance: "The Durpari saw the re-establishment of trade across the desert as a way to return to their heritage. Traders to the core, they had plied their wares in the Athis river valley before the curse had made it barren. They saw caravan trade between the remaining oases as the manner in which they could return" and "They were drive by two motives beyond those of trade alone: as members of the one god Anu, they were sworn to the destruction of the idols of the older gods of the Raurindi, and they were secretly ashamed that they had deserted the land to the Raurindi. Thus they come back to the desert with the glint of gold in their eyes, and a hatred of the Raurindi and all they stood for in their hearts" (5) ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jul 2009 03:53:41 -0700 From: Joaquin Menchaca Subject: [Ylaruam] Airlancers? If the religious tolerance is an important feature, then these could be a good/neutral faction of the surviving ethnic Nithians opposing the Brotherhood of the Flame (who are not necessarily ethnic Nithians, but are definitely their philosophical heirs). These airlancers would probably =E9lite "knights", so they would probably belong to the higher Order of the Rose. They should be quite rare, though (Ylaruam is not one of the established air powers as of 1000 AC).
