We always welcome those that wish to embrace nature's path, and we are delighted that our human natures have taken an interest in our ways. We welcome the opportunity to teach our human neighbors about mother nature. - Leanoria I will not tell this to anyone, but to learn our ways, to excel, one has to make great a many sacrifice. With power comes sacrifice and responsibility. To disregard this, to go against one's duty will have consequences. We don't advertise this requirement. Why should we? The humans have a deep enthusiasm to learn how we blend magic with martial combat, why discourage this. - Tanarisa Don't listen to them, they are a bit too fond of humans, t'endar phirathi... or seekers of human way. I understand the need to secure our Eastern borders, or else Thyatis will divide up our lands and ignore that we exist there. We don't want to go the way of Freeholds, that is, to conquer us for our alleged liberation. We have closely guarded secrets that the humans thirst after, and our members in the East found a way to work with power thirsty Thyatian. However, many of our number there have grown a bit too fond of the trappings of convenience that Thyatians bring, and I feel that some our forgetting our ways. Those of us in the West, Vishanii, followers of nature, have not forgotten our roots, and we choose to live off the land, to become apart of the ecosystem, united as one with nature. Some come back to return, either for good, or as a retreat, and find tranquility. - Fendalus GAMEMASTERS NOTE: The Forester was a mechanism that allowed a humans to play class that combines Fighter and Magic User abilities. The OD&D (DnD0e) does not provide a mechanism to allow demi-humans to choose a class. While a Human can choose to become a Cleric, Magic-User, Fighter, Thief; a Dwarf can only choose to play a Dwarf; an Elf can play an Elf; a Halfling (hin) can only play a Halfling; and a Gnome, well, one couldn't play a Gnome. Yes, the rules are more simple, but then demi-humans were second class citizens. But then in AD&D, demi-humans were something of a fascination, as they could multi-class, while humans could not. DnD3e allows all races to multi-class in any variety or combination in very simplistic way. The Forester was a way to work around that OD&D system, to allow humans to play a Fighter/Wizard, a common class combination for Elves. JOAQUINS THOUGHT: I propose dumping this old mechanism, as it was based on the rule limitations, and morph the Forester into something more. I think it should be more of a Paladin of the forest, and turning against nature denies this Forest Paladin the powers. This is why the elves are not afraid of teaching humans. I would imagine this Forester to be something like a Bladsinger, mixing arcane magic with martial prowess. In the DnD3e, I would make this a prestige class, where elves enter into the forest-paladin-like role (holy nature knights of the forest). Lastly, the Forester was thought of as a admixture of Fighter + Wizard, a common multi-class, the tendency would be to make a Forester as something more special than a Fighter/Wizard (as now humans can play this), but bent toward arcane magic. I would reconsider this, and look towards druidic magic, or perhaps a mixture of both Druidic and Arcane magic, something to be bizarre and fearsome. In my campaign, I restrict Ranger class to be of the Vyalia clan, and Monster Hunters of Zirchev. This works for the storyline, and perhaps is enough. But it would still be nice to have a Forester prestige class that is kicks butt, but is balanced; a Ranger could be an ideal class to meet requirements petition for train (take levels in the prestige class). This is because the requirements could require things a Ranger of some levels can do (good Base Attack Bonus, Arcane casting levels, many skill ranks in things like Stealth and Survival, etc.). One could meet the requirements through multi-classing, such as a Fighter/Wizard, and maybe a Rogue as well to pick up more skill ranks, which would make most petitioners to be Rangers. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
