Some ideas: - Centaurs could be present in the Moor and/or in the Wufwolde area where the PCs meet the Chevall Loshad in B10. - Pixies are found on the Isle of Lost Dreams (B10, once more), which is likely a center of Wee Folk activity, perhaps the entrance to a fairy kingdom - Haven may be another area of Wee Folk activity, before Arik takes over. Here's what I noted: (1) Werewolves are very complex, and don't fit in exactly with class-based gaming system, but can be done (if done with care) (2) Werewolf can be a magical creation, cured affliction, or naturally born. Each origin can confer different properties, powers, etc. (3) Naturally born can be spawned from wolf mother, human mother (or humanoid), or werewolf mother. (4) The humanoid mother can be human or other humanoid, conferring powers from the race of origin. (5) Like Dogs, Wolves, Worgs, etc. have different breeds, werewolves can come from different breeds (like racial attributes), but they are even more vastly different. Some might have more feral wolf bloodline, while others more human, some a mix. All these confer different powers and ablities. (6) Werewolves can be attuned to the moon cycle, creating dramatically different racial, ability, and personality types within the pack. White wolf calls this auspices. (7) And naturally, there are the profession-classes (fighter, cleric, wizard, etc.) in addition to any power-based classes or racial classes. (8) Besides werewolves, each lycanthrope type may or may not have these similarities. A werebear could have a mother that is polar bear, black bear, grizzly bear, brown bear, purple-bear with green spots, etc. (9) Werewolf powers could use energy to get spell-like powers (like sorcerer) or use the energy to heal wounds, etc. They regain this energy by eating a humanoid's heart, or being in the presence of a cycle of the moon that matches their type. This one implementation that could invariably at compete customizable and various powers of werewolves... ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Sep 2009 04:05:00 -0500 From: Greg Weatherup Subject: Re: Karameikos: Evil Immortals? There's no classes. A person chooses a type, which is sort of like a fusion between class & race. This reminds me of DnD0e (elf, dwarf, halfling, fighter, cleric, etc.). They have Awakened, Demon, Mages, Vampire, and Werewolf. There's a "Focus" of Might, Intellect, spirit, Stealth. Though these do confer a two point ability bump, they are like modern a meta-class attribute, basically squaring off the type of class abilities you can get access to. Demons again abilities depending on if they are a "Scourge" or "Tempter" classification. This tailors the "type" (i.e. the class/race fusion). Demons gain "anima" to use their powers. Demons seem (my interpretation of this) some life energy from fallen dead people, and can trade this Anima amongst themselves. Vampires can belong to a class (Daeva, Gangrel, Mekhet, Nosferatu, Vantrue), which confers a +2 ability and a -2 ability as well as narrows what powers they can have or not have. This seems to be a meta-race attribute. They use vitae to retain health and use powers, and they obviously recharge this through drinking blood. Werewolves have associated characteristics based on the moon phase, called auspices (rahu, Cahalith, Elodoth, Ithaeur, Irrak), which narrows or opens what abilities they can get. This seems to be like both a meta-class attribute and a meta-race feature (as it also grants a +2 on an ability beside constitution), further tailoring the "type". There's no details on any social organizations of packs, but maybe they don't have that in WoD (I never looked at storyteller rules for WoD) and if they did, it would confer further meta-race attributes. Werewolves gain essence to heal or use powers, and they regain this by eating a humanoid hear, seeing the moon in a appropriate phase, or being in some Nightmare Sites with powers relating to the moon or dimensional instability. Anyhow, I just read this on my coffee break, and it is really cool. He also had notes on how to convert Storyteller rules to this d20 system, like for example: 1 dot = 7 ability score (-2 mod) 2 dots = 10 3 dots = 15 (+2 mod) 4 dots = 18 (+4 mod) 5 dots = 22 (+6 mod) And WoD skill to d20 (mcWod) skill, and WoD Merits to d20 (mcWod) feats. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Sep 2009 11:38:04 +0200 From: Giampaolo Agosta Subject: Re: Karameikos: Evil Immortals? 2009/9/28 Rodger Burns : > Mystara is somewhat short on canon Immortals dealing with disease and > decay. =A0However in a pinch an aspect or identity of Demogorgon might se= rve - > she has that tentacle-rot attack suggesting an affinity, and might be pra= yed > to by the unhinged or desperate. =A0And her rivalry with Orcus makes for > interesting politics considering his interest in the vampires and devil > swine of old Traladara. What is a good good of disease that would be god to use for Mystara region? I would like to find one for this area, but also any others that might operate in western Karameikos, especially from Black Eagle Barony. Any thoughts, suggestions?>> I'd recommend several. First up is Hel, who in my games is the Ur-goddess of evil monsters and worshipped in many pantheons. For orcs, for example she is worshipped as Luthic the Cave Mother (see Roger Moore's old DRAGON article on the Orcish pantheon. She is not unknown for sending plagues into the world, one reason she receives sacrifices from humans in hopes of averting her wrath. Next, you could go with Ranivorus (Yeenoghu). As the corpse-eating god of the gnolls and patron of ghouls and ghasts, having plague as part of his portfolio (commonly spread by the unburied dead) is a good fit. For a Karameikos game, might add a good twist since the gnolls were a major part of the beastman horde that tore up the ancient Traladarans. You could also go with Jammudaru (Vaprak). In my games he is more of a hungry destroyer god who eats his enemies (in keeping with being the god of ogres and trolls) but the Hollow World description of his aspect is "skin is a caustic green mess like acidic pond scum; no features except a vague maw". Sounds like a good description for a plague Immortal.. Outside of Mystaran canon, I'd offer Yurtrus (orcish god of plague, again from Roger Moore's orcish pantheon, could maybe retcon him onto Yagrai). Incabulos from the GH pantheon I believe had plague in his portfolio and could be an import. In general, I'd say any evil Immortal would have plague in their bag of tricks, if not be "the plague Immortal". Could certainly play off of that.
