Trademarks last for ten years after you get them, unless there is no product development after five years (this prevents restraint of trade). Since Hasbro has not produced any Mystara material in more than five years they no longer have any trademark. Any Mystara material that you create is completely legal since you cannot copyright a name or an idea. Only if you copy exact words or game rules are you infringing on copyright. From what I understand, they are not renewing copyrights for those that made for earlier d20. They are rather anti-open with the release of 4e (those that make 4e material must revoke their d20 privilege or something like that). But with 4e, the toy company seems to be successful. > > So, for campaigns out of print, we can only and will only remain underground. > > For this, I thought of doing an alternative campaign, something that maybe I rename stuff, like instead of Alphatia, have El Fatia, etc. Anyhow, I thought of working on a world that is based on the four elements, and create an exotic world full of mysterious alternative fantasy. Then after the Great War or some cataclysmic event, the four elements sail the cosmos. Air takes off ala SpellJammer like, others find other means. They all settle on other planets and realms, where two mortal enemies settle on one planet, a world primitive in magic, that contain wealth of arcane-magical and techno-magical power that has once disappeared. I could use Pathfinder ruleset as a modern supported system. > > - Joaquin Menchaca > > > > > ******************************************************************** > The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp > The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com > To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM > with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jul 2010 10:51:48 +0000 From: Sarlat Thibault Subject: Re: SF BAY AREA Hi=0AWhen in france let us know.=0AWe hobbits like to make a good meal.=0AT= hib=0A=0AEnvoy=E9 de mon iPhone=0A=0ALe 4 juil. 2010 =E0 05:49, Joaquin Men= chaca a =E9crit :=0A=0AHey.=0A=0AI moved back from K= orea. In those circumstances, the smart thing to do is to figure out where the line between legit and illegit lies - and then stay WELL away from crossing it, because if you catch a lawsuit based on your fan writings your choices are to knuckle under quick and settle on Hasbro's terms or accept that you'll be old, grey and bankrupt by the time the final court ruling comes back. =/ (I am also not a lawyer, and my opinions do not constitute legal advice.)
