As for the Vaults, it's a different issue -- Shawn has not been able to update it due to RL interferences, and we've been discussing the move to a less time-expensive system based on submissions rather than collection. Some material is still not republished -- usually because the original site owner could not be contacted for authorization. He's only 5 now though so I've got some time to wait. On that note, has anyone had any luck introducing RPGs to small kids? Uhm, I'm not too familiar with this material, so the scenario is not very clear to me. Also, not being too familiar means my considerations might be voided by material I don't know about. The basic looks sound -- a ruler dies without heir, and there is a succession conflict between the widow and the aristocracy. This conflict should be somehow motivated -- is the widow a supporter of a power block opposed to the aristocrats? Why wouldn't the aristocrats just push her into marrying their own candidate? However, the role of the half-orc claimant is less defined -- what claim does he have to the throne? He might be an illegitimate son or half-brother of the deceased ruler, or a more distant relative. Anyway, there's still a need to decide which political factions are present in Freeport (where are you setting this in Mystara? I've seen Freeport used instead of Ierendi but also as a new city-state in the Western Thanegioth). Clearly, there must be three different factions (supporters of the "queen", of Morgan Baumann, and of the half-orc). The differences are likely to be both along family ties (powerful opposed families) and along social classes. The most likely option is to have the break between council and queen to be associated with family ties -- probably the queen represents one powerful aristocratic faction (but likely not the strongest social block), and the council candidate represents a coalition of aristocratic families that wield greater socio-economic power. For example, the queen might be a member of older, declining land aristocracy, while the council faction might be mostly composed of rich merchant families. The half-orc, if he is a blood relative of the dead sea lord, might gather support from middle-class merchants and guilders (by promising reforms to the council structure, for example). In a similar scenario, the city could easily fall into chaos, though three claimants would not last long: if the half-orc's faction is clearly strong, the council and queen will likely find an agreement and team up against him. Otherwise, the other factions will manipulate the half-orc against each other, then quash his faction using the military. Hope it helps, GP ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Jun 2010 11:40:38 -0700 From: "Harvey, Michael" Subject: Re: Test I'm here, and running two games in Mystara... :-) Mike -----Original Message----- From: Mystara RPG Discussion [mailto:MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM] On Behal= f Of Andr=E9 Sent: Monday, May 31, 2010 8:13 PM To: MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM Subject: Re: [MYSTARA] Test Importance: Low I haven't gotten any emails in months. Am pretty tired of having to play my MMORPG's in someone elses second rate game world. Actually thats a bit harsh, the warcraft world is kinda cool. And Aion is pretty fresh. I don't want to infringe on copyri= ghts though. I've had to make a few tweaks=2C and I can only say I borrowe= d certain ideas like the Darokin Merchants and Cinnabryl. I'm running a game in 1000 AC Darokin (and, by extension, 1000 AC everywhere else, eventually :-) ) using 4e. This was a return to DMing for me (except for a three-session 3.5 game a couple years ago, I hadn't had a group to DM since the mid-90s), a DM switch for a long-standing group I had joined, and a complete setting switch. I figured I'd go ahead and try the new mechanics out while making the changes. We ran a few test adventures (mostly taken from Dungeon Delve) at several levels to test the power curve, then started it up in January. So far, so good, everyone's having fun :-) -- Mike Phillips, msphil@gmail.com ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 31 May 2010 to 1 Jun 2010 (#2010-2) *************************************************************
