But as the PCs are highly resourceful, they changed all their offensive spells into fly and invisibility -type spells and just charged in at a vulnerable moment. (They arrived at the fort days ahead of the army, so the giants were not alerted etc.) I expected it, so I did not prepare too much. So a lot depends on the power levels of the PCs and the playing style of the group. Goblins with solid army training and having skilled responses to invasion and attacks. You can just swap in some orcs with locations as well. You probably just want to have the PCs take out key locations in order for the dwarf army to have an opportunity to get inside the fortress without a costly assault?
