Interesting. This is the fragment of your message header: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable And this is for my reply: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit This means it is likely UTF-8 is not directly responsible. Rather, it is the 7-bit encoding which is lost on extended character sets (which includes utf-8, but not us ascii). BTW, if I look at the message source, the arabic text your mail appears encoded (using ascii characters), while in mine it is displayed correctly. G. If you give me an example, I'll look at the message source. I looked back over the last few digests (luckily they hadn't been purged from my trash file yet) to pick out some examples and I noticed a pattern. It's every message from the following four posters: Havard, Thibault, Kar Ess, & Herve Musseau, are the one's that are partially garbled. It looks kinda like most of the punctuation and formatting got swapped with snippets of computer code in their messages. They are readable, just not easy to read. > > >> >> Is there a third encoding at work in those messages? And >> >> why are some messages in utf-8 and others in ascii text from the same >> >> senders? I don't know if it's all of it, but it's at least a significant chunk of it (it might be all of it). Look for a message with an attachment from me (off-list) momentarily.
