Unfortunately it became apparent to me a couple of years ago that the method of updating that I was using with the Vaults was not sustainable, it was taking up too much of my spare time, and it was only going to continue. Although other options for website structure are available it seemed at the time that there was nobody in the community who was sufficiently well versed in any particular method to help with setting one up. Combined with that, I was not confident in talking with anyone, or in my own investigations that any of the website structures would necessarily be able to cope with the sheer amount of files in the Vaults. So, I was left with what seemed to be the only option of having to learn a website system myself - and hoping that the option that I went with would be able to deal with the Vaults once everything was up and running. And that's still where things are today. I have still kept the Vaults in place - which basically means paying $200 a year for the hosting, and I remain very interested in having the Vaults move to the next stage, but I do need advice with that - and ideally from someone who has actual experience - and ultimately I will also need assistance with things too. cheers shawn On 1/07/2011 07:19, Havard Faanes wrote: > > I finally heard back from Shawn. And at a very good time: I've kept looking for a possible solution for updating the Vaults, and I've finally found two of my students willing and able to write the software needed to deal with the Vaults, based on the requirements discussed on the Piazza last year. The guys have been working at it since January, and they've been able to demonstrate to me last week the conversion of the entire existing file set to a MySQL database format, complete with the extraction of the index pages and authors list data, the generation of accounts for each author (with the correct permissions to edit their own articles), administrator accounts, and modifiable index pages, plus the front end for visualization and creation of new pages and index items. They still have to add support for uploading pdf files (but they already have it for maps, so this will not take much time). On the Piazza, we've been planning a public demo so you (and everybody else) can try it and see if it is stable and user-friendly enough to deploy it. Hope this helps, GP ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.pandius.com To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Aug 2011 01:13:49 +0100 From: Thibault Sarlat Subject: Re: 15 years and running Hello Shawn !=0A=A0=0AI am well versed in Wordpress now and it is a free sy= stem wich can he used for really anything.=0AAs for the hosting, i know muc= h better deal than what you have (unlimited space and domain names)=A0with = a very professionnal 24/7=A0hotline.=0ALast but not least, know that i am w= illing to chip in for the costs.=0ALet's see if we can make a paypal accoun= t to receive subscriptions.=0A=A0=0AThe solution suggested by Giampaolo to = put everything in MySQL format seems just perfect.=0A=A0=0AI would suggest = to work on a mindmap to conceive the new architecture (Mindmeister comes to= my mind, but freemind is freeware)=0A=0A=0A-------------=0ACordialement,= =0A=0AThibault SARLAT=0A=0AUn bon jugement d=E9coule de l'exp=E9rience...= =0Amais l'exp=E9rience d=E9coule d'un mauvais jugement.=0A=0AFrom: shawn st= anley =0ATo: MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM=0ASent: Sund= ay, July 31, 2011 6:15 PM=0ASubject: Re: [MYSTARA] 15 years and running=0A= =0Ahello Joe, and Havard, and everyone else too=0A=0AYes I am still around,= but have become more of a lurker than an active participant in recent year= s.=0A=0AUnfortunately it became apparent to me a couple of years ago that t= he method of updating that I was using with the Vaults was not sustainable,= it was taking up too much of my spare time, and it was only going to conti= nue.=A0 Although other options for website structure are available it seeme= d at the time that there was nobody in the community who was sufficiently w= ell versed in any particular method to help with setting one up.=A0 Combine= d with that, I was not confident in talking with anyone, or in my own inves= tigations that any of the website structures would necessarily be able to c= ope with the sheer amount of files in the Vaults.=A0 So, I was left with wh= at seemed to be the only option of having to learn a website system myself = - and hoping that the option that I went with would be able to deal with th= e Vaults once everything was up and running.=0A=0AAnd that's still where th= ings are today.=A0 I have still kept the Vaults in place - which basically = means paying $200 a year for the hosting, and I remain very interested in h= aving the Vaults move to the next stage, but I do need advice with that - a= nd ideally from someone who has actual experience - and ultimately I will a= lso need assistance with things too.=0A=0Acheers=0Ashawn=0A=0AOn 1/07/2011 = 07:19, Havard Faanes wrote:=0A> I finally heard back from Shawn.
