Notice that visually, the Threshold map looks like it's at a much denser scale, as if seen from far higher above, than for instance Kelvin, and yet Threshold is shown 1" = 500' while Kelvin is 1" = 400', not all that different. For a "standard," look at the size of the boats and docks on the Specularum, Kelvin, and Threshold maps, and then consider that they are supposedly 600', 400', and 500' to an inch, respectively. Clearly something's wrong. Any ideas? I also checked the HW boxed set maps (of Northern Iciria) and there are no keys either... I tried to figure out the scale by comparing distances, and it gives some weird number, around 40 miles per hex... I don't know of that scale being used in D&D products (8, 24 and 72 miles are the standard), but 24 is too small and 72 too big to keep a ratio between the maps... also, the HWR1 booklets include black and white maps which are weird: the general player's map gives 30 miles per inch, and, measuring, it makes the Azcan Empire absurdely tiny!!! Can anybody cast any light in this mapping madness of the Azca??? thanks Andrs ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.dnd.starflung.com/ To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ========================================================================= Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 22:44:48 -0500 Reply-To: Mystara Sender: Mystara From: David Knott Subject: Re: Sylvan Ream, part 2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: John Hofmann > > What exactly is the Elvenbane? Important Figures: Randolph Iuga, Duke of Wolven Description: Southernmost kingdom of the Inner Circle, Wolven is also one of the most ancient. It is divided in a northern zone, called Ayxia, a plain where farmers cultivate corn and breed cows, and a southern one, known as the Fork Hills, mostly used as pasture lands for sheep. Wolven has a good military force, among the best of Nentsun, but it is a region where few magic users are found. The official religion of Wolven is the Church of Dragor, a wolfman divinity who bless its clerics with lycanthropy. The Church of Dragor discourages intelligent youths from becoming wizards, and those who become so are watched with suspicion in this country. It is interesting to notice that the wolf-clerics of Dragor seem to be the only example of lycanthropy in the Inner Circle along with the shapeshifting clerics of the Bear in Ursi. Wolvens capital is the city of Alba Mater (pop. 26,000), built along the river Alius, in the northwestern part of Ayxia; the Mark of White, main temple of Dragor, is located here. The Duke lives in a palace a couple of kilometers away from the city. Another important city is Mizar (pop. 17,000), built on the road which leads from Alba Mater to Shuyra. Last but not least is the city of Shuyra (pop. 9,700), an important military outpost on the frontier with the hostile state of Glajura. ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.dnd.starflung.com/ To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ========================================================================= Date: Sat, 30 Dec 2000 17:07:03 -0000 Reply-To: Mystara Sender: Mystara From: Paul George Dooley Subject: Re: GAZ1 city map scale MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit ----- Original Message ----- From: "David S. Also it probably shows individual buildings rather than the large blocks in the other maps due to the Baron's ruling about proximity. Remember too that usually the boats in TSR maps are artistic licence and have no relationship to the actual mapscale. However there is the point that the Kelvin city map would place it a hex further south on the kingdom map and it seems that the Duke's Road branches at Kelvin with one part heading off into the moors, probably to Castellan Keep, whilst the other, not actually called the Duke's Road anymore, heads north to Penhaligon and Duke's Road Keep. Yes, I thought that at first, too, but the out of scale thing was a bit too much, especially when the booklet says that most of the info is for native azcan characters, who would be a more savy than outsiders, and, the really crazy map, the one of the southern part of the Empire, is only slightly bigger scale and it's 10 miles per inch!!! and it's in the DM booklet (these areas don't appear in the color poster map)... I really like HW products, but I feel that they have "bugs" here and there due to production rushes... mostly true for HWR2, sososo promising and so lame! It's a good thing to have people in the list to clear things up :-) thanks, Andrs ******************************************************************** The Other Worlds Homepage: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/OtherWorlds.asp The Mystara Homepage: http://www.dnd.starflung.com/ To unsubscribe, send email to LISTSERV@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM with UNSUB MYSTARA-L in the body of the message. ========================================================================= Date: Sun, 31 Dec 2000 11:27:46 +0100 Reply-To: Mystara Sender: Mystara From: Caroletti Subject: Poll Results: What is your favourite nation?
