Even thought the name imply that it is a Keep. I've always viewed Vingaard as Castle. Never seen any maps to it though. But you could use any large keeps, or castle maps to represent it. Just make sure you have a chapal, or temple of Paladine in the dungeon crawl.

Vingaard Keep is a ruins in the Age of Mortals. There is a small village/town that has sprung up next to it known simply as Vingaard. It is more of a way station for merchants making stops along the river. Depending on if in your timeline the Dark Knights are still in control of that region of Solamnia.

My plan was a large solamnic expedition (i just got heros of battle, so i wanted to use it) to retake vingaard. Is it just ruins, or is there any sembelance to a keep there for the nerakans to defend? Help appreciated.

I think Vingaard fortress has been ruins since Blue Lady / Dragonarmies destroyed during the War of the Lance.

In one of the SAGA boxes was more info about Vingaard in 5th age, including picture of ruins.

Basicly there is just huge ruins of fortress and small village or town. There is small settlement there with inn. Common people living there are rogues and river-pirates mostly. It's basicly shady small frontier village. There was Clandestine Solamnic knight there (probably couple).

I quess Dark Knights may have patrols in the area, but do not really control Vingaard area. So, there is not really anything to take.

Well it's always possible the Solamnics want to rebuild it. It's never detailed just how badly it is in ruins, but that might not matter if they just want to reclaim the land and start rebuilding it from the ground up. I'm pretty sure there is some semblence of the keep that remains standing.

Thanks for the help! My reasoning for the Solamnic's wanting to capture it was to take control of the knight's high road, to secure the Clerist's tower and eventually liberate palanthas. Plus it's a great adventure for my 9th level Pc's. But I'd love to hear any thoughts, opinions, and suggestions for this idea. Help appreciated.

Been there, done that. I fast forward my campaign to 4 years after the War of Souls. The Dark Knights lose their footing in their occupied lands, as without the support of the Dragon Overlords, they can't possibly keep control of such a large area, with a small number of troops. Remember the Dark Knights like the Solmanics are a PRESTEGE CLASS! There isn't a lot of knights in existance, although they do have forces under their control. Basically what happens is that the Populace rises up aginst the Dark Knights, who can't keep hold of the regions they occupy, as their supply lines are over-extended, and don't have the "Fear" of Mina or the Dragon Overlords to fall back on as a power base. So within two years, the Dark Knights are forced to give up the lands they occupy, due to the rebellions, and invasions from the Solmanics to reclaim their old lands. In the end the Dark Knights pull back to vingard where they're able to combine into a powerful army, because their forces are no longer spread out over tons of land, and now have a truce with the Solmanics after a stalemate, and now just occupy the vingard region, (and of course their usual homeland territoties). The Dark Knights in my opionion CANNOT hold onto the regions they have, the populace is an opposed alignment, and the Knights don't have the "Fear Factor" they once had to keep them in line.

Rmember, not all members of an organization are part of the prestige class. Derek Crownguard was a perfexct example. And most of the armies of the solamnics and the nerakans aren't actually knights. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My opinion is that TheAngryRogue is right. While the Knights are the elite, they are a fraction of the army, not the whole thing.
