The balance of good and evil (when it's actually working). The fact that the world isn't overpopulated with 'twinkie' NPCs (like Forgotten Realms). Kender- nuff said. It also has more of the classic wizards, knights and dragons feel of those stories of fantasy that most of us grew up with. The other playing worlds have them as well, but not in a harmonious balance that DL does IMHO.

I DON'T like how Ansalon is a relatively small continent (especially after the 2nd edition conversion) and how Ansalon is the ONLY continent on Krynn that we have any current info on.

Well considering the Dark Queen is dead, and then so is Raist, and even more than that, Paladine is a blasted elf (why couldn't he just take on the persona of Fizban???)...Just Mina.

Actually, the rich characters are what I love about DL. The storylines are epic, so that is a huge plus. I like the Conclave, and their view of sorcery (why be a mage when you can pop off spells you didn't have to memorize, oh yeah, because the whole Conclave will come looking for you!)

I am really hoping that somehow Takhisis makes it back into the world. She is the greatest villian since Darth Vader. I haven't read my copy of Amber and Ashes yet, so I don't know how the whole Chemosh thing plays out, so I reserve judgement for that.

Also, I love that the elves got their tails handed to them in the War of Souls. (I've never been a fan of elves myself. I get flak for that all the time, but it stems from thinking they were too overpowered back in the old days. I remember back in the old days thinking, "they can use martial weapons, and cast wizard spells?" Oh really? Oh, okay they can only get to level 10. Oh wait, what's this? Level A, B, C...? Blasted elves.)

The last thing I was just thinking about on the way home from work, reading Dragons of a Vanished Moon. I really like Blue Dragons! They are evil and al, but they are knightly. That to me is cool. They fight with honor, and value their riders as true champions.

I just realized what it truly is that I love about DL. It's Margaret Weis. What a storyteller! I have wanted to meet her for years, who knows, maybe someday. But then again, she would probably hate me for having too many questions to throw at her (though I am sure she could answer every single one without so much as a blink.)

Have I rambled on long enough? I could probably think of quite a few more things if I sat here long enough, but if I have kept your attention for this long, I think it is best I quit while I am ahead! :D

I have to admit, I am an avid FR player and have been for years, but its nice to spice it up with a little DL sometimes. The one thing about DL is it has a unique feel about it and it has something called purpose. Now dont think I dont find purpose in thwarting the machinisms of the Zhentarim or the Cult of the Dragon, but DL has purpose on a grander scheme. I mean the War of the Lance, the Chaos War, in these times of turmoil the heros knew what they were fighting for and took the nessasary measures to win, sometimes no matter what the cost. Theres something inherantly noble about that and this results in a different feel than the other campaign settings.

Minotaurs that are something other than maze masters. Playing a tinker gnome and watching players flinch when I say "oops". Ditto with kender (Wonder if the rubble is still bouncing? :P ). Not enough magic around to give every other person a +1 weapon (unlike some settings). Draconians and spawn.

Oh, and Alio... Margaret is seriously cool; I even have her auto in the front of my (3.0) PHB.

OGAM, I was just thinking the same thing about minotaurs yesterday while finishing up my reread of Vanished Moon. Galdar was one of the best characters of DL. He was like a true knight, with fur...Not to mention, he stood eye to eye with Takhisis, and had the guts to tell her to shove off. I haven't had the chance to read the Minotaur Wars yet, but I assume they were good? Are they worth the read? Sorry, getting a bit OT here.

Draconians are great! Ogre Titans too (bathe in that elf blood! BWAHAHAHA!)

As for magic weapons, great in video games, bad on paper...

Lucky you on the PHB Hancock. I have to see if she is ever coming to NYC. Either that, or I am going to have to start saving coppers for a trip!

The pure balance of the world of Krynn is what I like, for many of the aforementioned reasons. Important eras in history are fleshed out, and one actually can make heads or tails of those events. Excellent characters, kenders, jittery puffballs, gully dwarves (come on, you guys know you love them!) and most of all, Kender! There isn't 400 million different knighthoods, the magic users have authorities they have to answer to (at least the non-epic ones do!) and good and evil are pretty well defined. Add to that the fact that my first fantasy novel was Dragons of Autumn Twilight, add it was love from the beginning.

That being said, I despise the events from the end of DoSF on, though most of the characters are awesome. It's too bad they have to live in such a crappy continuity.

Hey Alio, take a gander at GenCon Indy-she often does signings. Ditto Doug Niles, Ed Greenwood, Bob Salvatore (long lines on him) and others.

By the way, Kaz can kick Galdar's horns in. He actually twisted the dragonlance in T's shoulder. And he chopped the head off a red.

And try some of the newer books Bane. With the gods back things are a little more traditional.

Thanks OGAM, but I cannot afford a trip to GenCon. The only time I go out of town is when my company sends me on business

I haven't read anything about Kaz, maybe I should...

And I agree, the gods being back is great. I just started Amber and Ashes yesterday. Looking forward to seeing what happens! Chemosh is an interesting deity, though I still pine for the return of my Dark Queen...

yea, and the fact that they hold up 10 fingers "How many are there?" ...

"Two!"

I also like Raistlin. He rocks. I also really like the whole system of the place. The way things work and the history of Krynn up until the age of Mortals.

Well the first DL book I ever read was The Legend of Huma, and of course my favorite character was Magius, he kind of represents the best thing about DL the fact that not everything is black and white.

And I like the fact that sometimes even the bad guys can become heroes, while still sticking to being bad guys, like Steel.

And I like the fact that not every book is about a struggle between the good guys and the bad guys, sometimes it's just all bad guys (Minotaur Wars, anybody?)

Oh and I like how too much good can turn to being really bad, like Kingpriest and Knights of Solamnia during The Legend of Huma.

Paladine is an "elf" because he created the elves first. Elves were created in their God's image (sound familiar)?

Thakisi created humans, hence she's a human.

Takhisis created ogres. Humans are the creation of Gilean.

Elves tend to be good, ogres tend to be evil, and humans have no predisposition either way.

That, and Takky was in the form of a human when the pantheon stripped her of her powers, so she didn't have an option as to the form she would be stuck in when she was rendered mortal (which is probably better for everyone, seeing as how everyone knew she wouldn't lose her powers 'gracefully'). Paladine had a little more time to prepare and choose since he was becoming mortal voluntarily, so IIRC, he chose the form of an elf.

I thought Paladine chose elf since he was going to be forced to live a mortal lifespan. Five hundred to a thousand years is a whole lot more than eighty or ninety. If he took the form of Fizban (an elderly human) he'd probably live ten to twenty years tops.

My favorite thing about the setting is the characters and how they interact with one another. It just feels very "fairy tale-ish" as some have said before. A little Mother Goose, a little Brothers Grimm, some Tolkien. That's what I love. We modify quite a bit about the setting in my personal campaign, but we never change the romantic nature of the fantasy or the archetypes so wonderfully represented in the Chronicles and Legends series.

Gotta love Kang's Regiment, long live the engineers! The other Draconians I could take or leave but we definitely need more of these guys.
