The Old Father sat hunched in a silent revere for a few moments, as if contemplating some secret or shred of knowledge. The initiates who were presently sitting on the ground in the Cipher compound, stared at each other in amazement. No one could understand why the Master, who had summoned them here for their next lesson just a few minutes ago, had suddenly lost himself in deep thought.

For a Cipher... this was unheard of.

Time passed, and the initiates all started to grow increasingly agitated at having to wait so long to learn about what they could expect to do for today's lesson. One of the young ones in the front row began to stand, perhaps in an effort to prompt the Old Father into some kind of reaction.

It had no effect. The student sat back down quietly... embarassed, hoping now, to draw as little attention to herself as possible.

The initiates resigned to the fact that they would apparently have to continue to wait for the Old One to finish... whatever it was he was doing at the moment.

After several long moments of progressively annoyed stares and increased fidgeting among the group of students, the Old Father rose suddenly and stood before the collected initiates all in one quick and fluid motion. He spoke in a somber tone.

"Today, we learn about thought. Today we learn about our philosophy and how it relates to thought and action. But before all that, you must decide the answer to this question:

What is the Cipher philosophy? Is it a big picture - like a chess game, a way of life perhaps, or a calming view - a secret of inner Cipher existence?"
