Kind of an odd place to have to post this, but the site doesn't leave much choice. Does anyone have en electronic copy of the 1st or 2nd edition rules for GW? And beside the GW webring, could someone please give me a few good sites to find resources?

There's probably some stuff at alternityrpg.net, and if you ask on one of the boards another member can give you a list.

I found a version of GW1 a couple of years ago when I was collecting everything GW while pushing for GWd20, but since then I have accidently erased the hard drive that had it. Oops! I can't remember how I found it either. Feh! The Dragon magazine archive had a few articles for GW that were pretty neat if you were running a GW1 game.

I'm a big fan of both editions. I remember seeing some downloads of the first 3 editions, but all text-only. I cant find the site right now but I will add it when I find it. If you want a .PDF and dont mind spenting money for it, then your best bet is to look at online stores that specialize in electronic netbooks, like: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php.

Someone is making a retro-clone of the game, called Mutant Future. If you dont know, a retro-clone is a netbook of an old game system, that is renamed (for copyright reasons), and keeps the "feel" of the original game. Unlike other RCs, this game is not going to be outright carbon copy as it going to use the old basic fantasy rule system, and its going to be compatible with older D&D and GW game books. And best of all, it going to be free! Its not out yet - probably around July?

If your interested, I know a number of really good GW forums that maybe of some help. I well see it I can gather more info on this.

I've been hearing about Mutant Future as well and it sounds like a hoot. I'll definitely be grabbing a copy.

Well, I cant find that web-site with the 'text-only' rule-book files - I even look in the WaybackMachine archives. It seems that a lot of classic (and really good) GW sites have fallen in the memory hole. I think I have the files on a disks somewhere? Just send me a privet message if you want them, and I can see what I can do.

If you are interested in the topic of classic GW, I recommend some really good forums. Gamma Terra covers all editions plus Metamorphosis Alpha and more. Gamma World @ Yahoo! groups also covers everything and more (their was another GW site like this, but it had fallen to spamers). Post-Apocalyptic Forge @ Yahoo! groups is like the previous group, but with less traffic. Metamorphosis Alpha dot net focus on just MA, but both games are a kin to one another. Jim Ward also hangs out there (and Gary before he met the "Great DM" in the sky). Goblinoid Games is the home of Mutant Furure and other "retro-clones" games (Labyrinth Lord and GORE). You would find a lot friendly and helpful people at these sites.

If you need PC sheets and a map of Meriga then check out the Mad Irishman. The Apocalyptic Post was a good (short lived) semi-monthly e-zine. The Post-Apocalyptic Forge site has the Scot Hoover's Material which has is a comprehensive compilations of 1st & 2nd ED equipment (Scavengers Field Guide, and Underwater Gear) and Mutants (The Mutant Manual II) that cover both published and fan-made material, and are an essential resource for anyone playing such editions!

I was involved with the playtesting, and I can tell you that its going to be sweet! It essentially uses the Basic D&D rules, but modified with 1&2 ED GW rules. You still roll HP based on Con, the Mutations are still rolled-out & open-ended (names are different, but the effects are the same), and you can choose between Pure Human, Mutant Human, Mutant Animal, Mutant Plant, and 3 types of Androids. Combat, alignment, mutant stats, and Treasure Type (called Hoard Class) is based on Basic D&D rules. One of the big difference, is that it has 4 types of Saving Throws (Energy Attacks; Poison or Death; Stun Attacks; and Radiation) and Androids roll out Mutations that represents some artificial design features, otherwise nothing else drastic, so it can be used fairly easily with older GW and D&D books (it even has a system of conversion, called Mazes & Mutants). Jumping between D&D and GW may seen weird/stupid/inappropriate, but not everyone has played S3 - Expedition to the Barrier Peaks or DA3 - City of the Gods. Some of my art is going to be in the rulebook (everyone just get a kick out of this one! :P).

I hope that this was all helpful!

ATTENTION ALL GAMMA WORLD FANS

Goblinoid Games has finally released Mutant Future. Its a dame good game that captures that "old-sckool feel" of the old editions. It is well layed out, has about 160 pages of good stuff, has a lot of really good art (if you like that type of wahoo stuff), and as noted above, it compatible with classic D&D games. Its a free download, but if you dont want waste you printer ink, the book wont cost you that much.

The game already has it own mascot - The Spidergoat

Mutant Future is good stuff. Download it, buy it, whatever, just get it. It looks like you can use GW1 and GW2 stuff as is with it. GW3 stuff will work without too much effort, too, I think. I'm looking at using the "Mutants & Mazes" stuff for a Thundarr the Barbarian adventure or two.
