Anyone else find it odd that drakes are of the dragon type?

It just strikes me as weird due to the unique nature of dragons in DS as compared to those in other worlds.

Nope :D.

It's just a use of th creature type for game mechanics purposes - there's no implied link between drakes and dragons. It gives the game some antagonists that can be mechanically similar to standard D&D dragons without needing to worry about dozens of defiler and psion levels into the bargain.

Sound reasoning, but still feel its sort of odd. I think of them being more of the magical beast type. But hey, thats just my opinion.

I really wouldn't say it was wrong, just a different view of drakes I guess. ;)

Just messing with ya.

Heck, I'm considering giving the Dragon type to Dray as well, but still debating it. Kinda bugs me that they don't have that already.

There's a book slated for next year by WotC called Races of the Dragon (or something like that) which details all sorts of humaniod dragon races. Maybe material from that could be used of the dray.

Hey, you know now is the time to do it, if ever, what with the ToA revision in hand. Chuck a write-up together with them statted as dragons and send it around the Bureau. It might not be a bad idea at all ...

In 2e they were catagorized with the dragons- the Dray that is. It may never been specifically stated that way, but swords vs dragons worked against them- I believe that it stated this in the CbtSS.

I see the Dray like the 3.5e Half-Dragons- they were modeled after Dregoth, so it reasons that he used some of his, umm, essance to make them- like using DNA- only he used his altered DNA which already had the Dragon type- which stands to reason that the Dray do to

Eh, besides you and me the bureau seems pretty dead.

I'll send something that way so we can look at it though once I'm done debating it to death.

Kinda wish I could wait for that book now...

Thanks, good to know I'm not insane or something.

It's just one of the few problems I have with ToA that have started to crop up here recently.

Problem is I am still pretty burnt out on monsters and don't want to give it the major sweep it probably needs right now.

I see dray more as draconians or dragon spawn from the dragonlance setting - a dragon man created by others (in the case of spawn true dragons)..... seems alot closer than half-dragons.

anyway my 2 cents

Umm...... ok. Seemed rather irrelevant. Mostly in the more recent posts, people were saying that Dray should be the dragon type. Unless I missed something there.

But in a way, you are correct. In a way, you aren't. The big difference is that Dray actually breed and produce offspring. Now I know that Dragonlance D20 eliminates that issue for the Draconians, but still...
