Post your list here of which of the new minis works the best for DL... aside from the obvious Draconians from Dragoneye and Mina from Angelfire, and Soth from Giants of Legend.

Everything and anything except the Drow, Lycanthropes and Orcs.

Call the Orcs hobgoblins, and you can use those too.

Halflings of course make excellent kender miniatures, especially the ones with topknots (like Lidda the rogue).

Young Minotaur make decent DL minotaur (medium size)
All the lizardfolks make for Bakali

I was soooo happy when I cracked open my first box of Angelfire and got a blackscale lizardman, I have been using them in DL instead of the regular lizardman ever since I've seen them, and now I have one! Yay.

I am using the hexblade figure as a sorcerer/rogue, Jozan the cleric as my citadel mystic/guard, an older metal figure for the 1/2 ogre Legionaire, and an elf with a bow as the Kagonesti Ranger.

I say the Orcs are Half-Ogres. The obvious thing is to call halflings kender. I refer to the Gold Champion from Dragoneye as an Aurak draconian.

Most commonly I use orcs as Ogres and just tell the players to consider the mini as a large creature. In all of the Miniatures history they have only put out a few Ogres, and those are rare figures because they are larger, so you have to make due (having only 1 Ogre Ravager and 1 Ogre Mage does not cover a 5 man Ogre patrol ).

I grabbed the Centaur Hero as soon as I saw him in the store, that is a rarely used figure but so important all the same. The elementals came in handy big time during the Key of Destiny, and of course the extensive collection of Dragons that I have are always usefull. I use my Fire Giant figure to represent Desolation Giants, along with the Dijinni since I only have one Fire Giant. The best was using an Aspect of Nerull to simulate a wraith while the characters explored the Ruins of Hurim.

That's one big Wraith!

Yeah, I guess you have to use Orcs if you can't get your hands on Ogres. I don't have any myself, but I would like to get a few. They came out pretty nice, especially the mages.

I still need to get my hands on a Blue dragon or two. I have Mina and Soth, along with 4 Baaz. Besides those, and my humanoids, I am pretty dry as far as using any for DL. I didn't consider using the orcs before though, so that's a good idea. (I thought it almost heresy :-)

We usually use non-WoTC lead minis that we paint. The WOTC ones we have generally fill in as mooks and the occasional monster.

I don't know I managed to be so lucky, but I have a Large Red, Huge Red, Large Blue, Bronze Wyrmling, Large Black, Large Copper, Gold, and White Zombie Dragons. I also have Soth, and somehow ended up with 5 freaking Mina figures. I have only bought 6 Angelfire boxes, how do you end up with 5 Rares out of 6!?! If ever comes a time when Anasan (from Key of Destiny) or any of her kind are needed to attack the characters, I have a Drider Sorcerer that could take her place as well.

Wow, Kalanth, that is some set!

Got tons more, I have gone out of my way to complete each set I buy. That means I have all of Dragoneye, Deathknell, Giants of Legend, and Angelfire, with a spattering of the other sets simply because they were necessary for the game that day and I was in the store.

For more ideas about what to use:

Blackscale Lizardfolk (and lizardfolk in general) can substitute for Dragonspawn

A Behir makes a decent substitute for the Purple Worm as well, though I don't throw all that many oversized monsters at my party.

I used a Greenfang Druid to represent a Dryad, though it was still a strech to say the least.

Dark Travelers make excellent Dark Knights, and the Stalwart Paladin is a perfect fit for a Knight of Solamnia.

My personal favorite is to use the Skullclan hunter as an aflicted Kender. The mini has that don't mess with me look to it, and most afflicted that I have run have that same mentality.

Though a hint more ornate in their design, Warforged make decent constructs.

Never be to ashamed to use the Ibixian as a Minotaur. The Minotaurs may hate insults like that, but the mini's don't. :D

If you don't have a Treant and you use them in an encounter, a Wood Woad with a sticky pad under it makes a good substitute.

Deathlocks are great for lich's, while Astral constructs can sub in for a specter or ghost.

I have used a Flind Captain or two as a gnoll, just need to adjust the size down one, which is not as hard as you would think.

If you have been reading my story recap, then I will mention that Dove Fenshire uses the Divine Crusader of Corellion to represent her Paladin, and it also fits in nicely for another Solamnic Knight.

Xeph warriors are so common that they would be perfect as city guards, especially in Khur.

The Abyssal Maw with a sticky pad makes a great sub for the Otyugh as well.

Welp, I have exausted my brain for tonight and will be happy to think up more as I go along (since I do it every Wednesday for my Thursday game).

I see the need for a minis conversion document for the Nexus.

I agree. A good compiled list is definitely needed. And I certainly agree about using orcs as ogre stand-ins. Many more ogres are needed as commons.

When I get some free time between writing my seemingly increasing in size game recap each week, taking care of my wife and daughter, working midnights at the hotel, and doing freelance editing and writing for d20 people on EnWorld, I will be more than thrilled to tackle this. Heck, they get me a good preview page of the upcomming Underdark mini set and I will adapt that one as well. :D

Well I have Mina, Soth and of the Draconians (6 Kapaks and 55 Baaz - gotta be ready for mass melee), 1 Huge Gold, 2 Med Gold, 1 Large Copper, 1 Large Silver, 2 Med Brass, 12 Bronze wyrmlings, 1 Huge Red, 1 Large Red, 2 Large Blue, 1 med Green, 2 Small white, 1 Med Black, a metal Black in flight with rider, and the Colossal Pewter Black dragon so I have the dragon side of teh house covered.

I Have over 50 different figures from the Miniatures line that I use for assorted creatures not to count the individual figures (Tordek, Lidda, Jozan, etc...).
