Ended up with a 20, yay me! Planing a half orc barbarian when I came upon the Brute kit from the complete barbarian's handbook, page 40, you actualy get to add +1 to your strength or 25% at 18 strength. Adding for his age catagory (young adult) and his race, plus kit, I've got a 23 strength! Now, just for the sake of arguement, I cant seem to find a magic items to make his strength go any higher, gauntlets of ogre power or even a belt of giant strength would actualy lower his strength, (but might be fun for him to take his kid gloves off or to prevent him from accidently killing someone.) the only thing I can think of is the manual of gainful exercise, but i dont think he can be smart enough to use it. (The trade off for the +1 strength is that if your inelligence is 7 or higher, it is treated as a 6 and your charisma can never be treated higher than 8 to represent the brutishness.) If anyone knows of any strength gaining items, I'd like to hear it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : True_Atlantean Date : 04-06-08 06:02 AM Thread Title : Re: Supreme strength Out of morbid curiousity, why do you want a Strength higher than 23? HAve you looked at the stat line for 2nd ed? Comparably, you'd be a god among mortals; the 'average' stat being around the 10-12 mark. I'd also ask what the racial maximum for the Strength stat of a half-orc is before going too far with the question? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Demetri_Knighthawk Date : 04-06-08 01:35 PM Thread Title : Re: Supreme strength I can only answer with "Morbid curriosity". I am aware of the leniency and grace my GM is allowng me to play a character of such strength and am not trying to overshadow my other players with this character. I am in fact using this monumental score as a springboard of sorts for his background. That said perhaps I should rephrase the question. 1)what items available provide a strength bonus? 2) can a barbarian use a manual of gainful exercise with only a 6 inteligence? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : SamualT Barronsword Date : 04-06-08 06:16 PM Thread Title : Re: Supreme strength The item description for a manual of gainful exercise does not list a minimum intelligence to use, however you must *read* the text for it to be of any use to you. Can your character read at all? If using them in your campaign, you need to have the Non Weapon Profficiency (NWP) skill "Reading/Writing" in at least one language you can speak (as a warrior class you would need to pay two proficiency slots to acquire this skill - see the 2nd edition PHB). If not using the NWP rules, then you would need to ask your DM whether you can read or not based on the background of your character. I would say no if your character was a "Barbarian" of the "Brute" Kit variety, but your DM seems the lenient type, so it won't hurt to ask. Can your character read such a text with a 6 intelligence? I'd say no if I were your DM, just cause, well, a 6 intelligence? Even if a your character with a 6 intelligence could read, what could they read beyond, "See Spot! See Spot Run!" kind of things. Me, I'd rule magical tomes were above your comprehension level, but again, your DM may not think so. As to what other items can raise your strength above the 23 you already have? A Girdle of Storm Giant Strength can give you a 24 strength. A pale blue Ioun Stone gives a +1 strength bonus. Your DM might allow a full [I]wish[I] to raise your strength, but maybe not. Umm, that's all that I can think of. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Mock26 Date : 04-07-08 11:10 PM Thread Title : Re: Supreme strength Just be careful that your character isn't so powerful that it will completely unbalance all of your combat encounters and ruin the enjoyment of the game for your fellow players. That can easily happen with a character such as you describe. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Demetri_Knighthawk Date : 04-08-08 11:40 AM Thread Title : Re: Supreme strength Thank you for the advice, I had been thinking of using him in combat to just walk aroud softening up opponents or taking on hordes of minions, freeing the other players up for the real fight. Perhaps walking up to the bbeg and slapping the snot out of him for one hit, crying out "COUNTING COUP!" and then move onto a different opponent. But, as he is a barbarian, I might have him mainly focus on those non-shamans withthe cones on their heads. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : RedWizard Date : 04-08-08 01:19 PM Thread Title : Re: Supreme strength starting a character, kinda mish-mashed 1&2 edition games, roll 2d6+1d8 rather than 4d6 drop lowest. Also once you hit 18 as a fighter, strength then goes up in percentil points, not whole integers. But as a Barbarian, you do not benefit from the percentile integers thus 18 is as good as it gets without some sort of magical boosting regardless of age or kit. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:22 AM.
