#1zombiegleemaxAug 29, 2005 7:57:54 | Hi, I am planning a new Freeport campaign and I was planning to use Greyhawk as the setting. Now if that isn't heretical enough, I was hoping to squeeze the City of Waterdeep in there as well. Can someone recommend a location/region for Freeport and Waterdeep in Greyhawk? Do I need a really big shoehorn to even attempt this? Thanks in advance, Frank ftroise@si.rr.com |

I don't know much about Waterdeep. I guess somewhere on a coast, with a very deep port. For some reason I think making it a free city in the Iron League (maybe between Onnwal and Idee) would be best. |

I think it might have a larger population than the city of Greyhawk and is definitly larger according to the maps. The City of Irongate itself might make a good location for Waterdeep. You might also consider a free city in the Old Great Kingdom. If you want to parallel the Forgotten Realms location, Waterdeep would fit as a free city in the Great Kingdom of Northern Aerdy on the Solnor Ocean. |

#5lord_crymsonAug 30, 2005 4:28:47 | To be precise Waterdeep city is TWICE as big as Greyhawk (pop. 132.661 against pop 69.500), while the whole Waterdeep coutryside holds 1.5 millions people (!), ten times Greyhawk's 160.000. It would be rather hard to fit that City in GH. If you shrink it down a little bit, I'd go for replacing Dyvers... or maybe change its flavour and place it on the Baklunish lands. |
#6zombiegleemaxAug 30, 2005 6:43:04 | I forgot that Greyhawk is the city and Oerth is the world. What a mistake. Keeping the City of Greyhawk where it is, where would you recommend I put Waterdeep on Oerth. BTW, thanks for the demographics on both cities, I wasn't aware of that either. Is there a location that all three (Greyhawk, Waterdeep and Freeport) can be placed? Then I have to consider the City-State of the Invincible Overlord too... I also forgot how much work goes into starting a campaign; it's been awhile. |

It'd be unlikely to have three major cities too close to one another. If Waterdeep is Dyvers and Greyhawk is Greyhawk, they'd both be on the Nyr Dyv (on opposite sides of the lake). If you put Freeport in the Wild Coast or Pomarj, it'd be close to Greyhawk, but not Waterdeep. |
