i was wondering if anyone had any information on this particular ruin located at the edge of the Scorched Plateau? nary a mention of it in the sourcematerial in the revised edition of DS, not even a paragraph or sentence in the "Sites of Interest" in this particular region. has anything ever been printed in regards to this strange and enigmatic ruin? or has anyone expounded upon it themselves in regards to their own campaign? is it an ancient testing/training ground built by Rajaat? or was it once a haven of preservers that was decimated by the sorcerer kings during the Cleansing Wars?

Aside from it being spelled Magehome, no.

You can write anything you want about it.
It should, of course, be related to wizards: maybe its a place where magic items were crafted, using the lava's heat as a forge, à la LotR.
Or it can be that the wizards there did something that opened up the crust and created that lava sea.
Or it can be related to Rajaat, a place where magic was first taught to people.
Its proximity to the lava sea can be for the kick of it, it doesn't mean it has to be tied to lava in any hard or supernatural way.

There's a zillion possibilities.

I was actually going to use the location as a secret school of magic (like the Nexus for the Order) for perservers and also use it as the jump point for the Arcane Specialist PrC that I am developing. The school will not allow members of the of the VA to join them as they see the group as nothing more then terrorists and trouble makers.

Yeah, who'd expect to find wizards in a place called Magehome? :P

And marked on the map as such none the less. That's like putting the hidden village on the map :D

well it's marked as a ruin on the edge of the lava sea, so i always thought that whatever purpose it may have served died a long time ago. though the name would imply that it was a place for sorcerers and sorcerous studies (whether an old school created by Rajaat, or some other). i imagined it may have had a vast collection of arcane lore and sorcery, sort of like Alexandria back in the days...though being that close to the heat probably hasn't helped preserve whatever texts may have once been held there...save the magical ones of course...or ones protected by magical means...

In my campaign, Magehome was the flying fortress of Rajaat. When the champion turned on him, they crashed is fortress down. To defend himself, Rajaat split the earth in two and summoned an army of fire elemental. That spell created the Lava gorge.

I think Rajaat's fortress was the Pristine Tower itself...I could be wrong though.

Well if you think about it, there are really no SK's or their templars in the area that have the motivation or desire to do anything about a group of preservers hiding out there. Now add to that it has the name Mageholm- who would be dumb enough to populate the place with wizards? Well if the school was hidden below the ruins it would make a great place to teach magic due its seclusion and location so close to the huge lave pit. The background I have thought up makes it a preserver holdout like Bodach, but not as strategically important to Rajaat's war against the preservers. Now it is a wasteland due to the same reason the the Dead Lands was made- a magical experiment, but this time it was the 'good guys' who did it. They were trying to find a way to stop the Big R and they blew the s t out of themselves in the process.

Now the school will have several high power wizards there, but I also thought it would be a good place to have a kind of outcast Magma cleric (he is good, whereas most paraelemental are not (I think that is right?). Now the cleric might be on the trail of becoming an AB- have not decided yet. None of the wizards in the place will be on the path of AB hood, but there might be at least one Epic wizard there- with my Arcane Specialist PrC and maybe some other cool tricks.

It as been a place where he did work. Although, I dont think it was a fortress, at least not HIS home. It's an ancient artifact from the blue age halfling.

Is pyramid in the swamp, at the base of the jagged cliff, is the "official" fortress of rajaat and it's where he created magic i.e. sorcery.

More than that, the supplement said the inverted floating pyramid was but one of many magical structures Rajaat created, so we can think that maybe one of them was Rajaat's fortress.

Rajaat discovered magic at the base of the cliff/swamp. He later refined it at the Pristine Tower.
