for those of you who incorporate Athas into the ol'skool multi-versal cosmology i pose a question...

in the boxed set City by the Silt Sea it mentions that Dregoth used the planar gate to travel to various worlds and research ways to make himself a god. along the way he ran into actual dragonkind - chromatic, metallic, etc. which he slew and used to build New Guistenal. how do magical creatures effect life on Athas? let's just say hypothetically speaking a venerable gold dragon managed to find itself on Athas. how would his spell-like abilites work in terms of the magical nature and conditions of Athas? would his powers defile the surrounding vegetation if it wasn't aware? or would it pull the energy from its own magical nature? the same question goes for Baatezu and Tanar'ri or other denizens of the outer planes. are they're magical abilites considered "magic" per se, or rather inherent powers and abilities? could the nature of magic on Athas cause a sort of sickness in these types of creatures? would they be highly susceptible to defiling magic due to their heightened magical nature? just wondering...

I rule that spell-like abilities work as normal. They are inborn innate powers that don't have ties to the way magic flows on Athas.

Its much simpilar that way, though If you do want to make a creature more terrifying or destructive you could rule that it defiles. This might be vary apporpriate in the case of Demons.
