I'm trying to gather any information out there on the lands in the far Baklunish West ... Mur, Risay, Komal, etc. I've found the little bit of information in the LGG. Anyone have any other sources I should check out?

In the old, old, old Greyhawk paperback Sea of Death, Gygax gives a brief and rather vague description of the lands surrounding the Sea of Dust. I believe he mentions at least a name or two of the lands between the Ulsprues and the Sea of Dust... but not much more than that: the subject is only brought up in passing.

(Also, of course, Sea was written after he was forbidden to mention "real" place names in Greyhawk. So whatever names you DO read probably aren't 'canon'. PAH!)

There are a few new places mentioned in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, notably Mur, the Ataphad Islands, the Janasib Islands, Risay, and Komal. Most of these places are little more than names, at this point, but you might be able to glean a little more information from Fred Wiening's Zeif article in LGJ #5 (assuming you can find it).

Sea of Death p. 129-134 include an overview of the lands west of the Hellfurnaces.

Plus, if you want to get really wacky, Gygax and Flint Dille wrote a series of "choose your own adventure" books featuring "Sagard the Barbarian" that has some stuff that can be lifted to flesh out Western Oerik. I once posted a long essay to this effect on AOL in ages past, but I've lost it.

in a weird twist, I put the Dark Sun campaign setting south and west of the Sea of Dust...

I like this idea. I also like putting Kara Tur where it rightfully belongs: Oerth. That would be out west as well I would think. The Underdark belongs on Oerth too while we're at it.

The Dark Sun setting could actually be the same as the Sea of Dust.

Yep - I based my Sea of Dust campaign on the City on the Silt Sea (I think that was the boxed set) and found it worked very well with few adjustments...

I've always liked the idea of Zakhara (Al-Qadim) being somewhere to the southwest of the Sea of Dust. In part, it's because there could be some sort of link between these pseudo-Arabian cultures. But it's also because I'd like to bring my two favorite campaign settings together, and I resent how everything ends up on Toril (like Kara-Tur).

Well, to be fair, the Underdark is simply a region that can exist on any world. It's not as if that was an area so specific that it could exist only in one place.

That said, I'll gladly admit that different settings may have different types of underdark (if only in regard to the critters one can encounter there..)

This is what I have always done with Kara Tur as it was described in the original OA.

Erik, I found something on a Google cache of Canonfire using Sagard the barbarian in quotes. Not sure if its what you're talking about.

EDIT: I e-mailed you offboards
