So our party got transported from Forgotten Realms to Ravenloft.

Here's the question. Since FR spellcasters use the Weave to cast spells, would being in Ravenloft completely cut them off from using magic? And if so, would Magical Items forged using FR Weave magic stop functioning?

Thanks for your replies,

D.A.

I don't think so. After all, the "Weave" is just the local name for the source of magic in the FR setting. Other worlds/settings have simply different names. And the relationship with specific gods exist too; sometimes on a different level, that's all (the 3 moon gods in DL, Boccob in GH, etc..). The darklord Hazlik comes from Thay and yet he can still cast spells. So, I don't see why players couldn't too.

Besides, RL does have its own version of Mystra and the Weave. It's Hala.

The big difference between FR and RL would rather concern the Shadow Weave from Shar. In RL, I've got a hunch it would be supplied by the DP (if it existed at all) and that would be very bad news indeed to anyone keen on using it...

The best thing to do is assume that the Dark Powers provide whatever energy is necessary for the character to cast their spells. A character from Dragonlance still casts their spells without the moons, characters from Faerun cast whether they use the Weave or the Shadow Weave, and Defilers are still required to steal the energy from plantlife. It prevents any one character from feeling cheated for choosing the wrong class, and ensures that everyone has a chance to be corrupted by their magic use.

A good idea may be to pretend that the magic rating of whatever realm you're in is 1 lower than what it really is.
