I have loved Dragonlance since it was released, I enjoyed the novels and now in my mid thirties play 3.5 dnd with friends and my children.
I have ordered the Legends book, as this book is the one I have waited all these years to read.

I have a question, if only to get a teaser for Raistlin before my book gets delived to australia.

If Raistlin in his heart puts magic itself first and does not worship Nuitari first and foremost does this mean he does not, in game terms, have levels in Wizard of High Sorcery despite his soulforge test?

If I have to wait, fair enough.

please, cam banks or anyone, tell us something to quench the hunger.

Thanks in advance Adam.

Unless I am mistaken, Cam pointed out several times in past threads that one doesn't have to take the WoHS PrC after completing the Test successfully. Of course, not doing so means not getting the most out of the organization you joined but it is possible.

I can tell you in absolutely honesty that Raistlin has a 12 Wisdom.

There you go.

I remember seeing Raistlin's 1e stats as a 20th level black-robed mage, and I always thought he should have been a 20th level magic-user. Remember that they had slightly different classes for each Order of High Sorcery, and the magic-user from the PHB was a renegade. Since Raistlin seemed to be able to cast spells that were forbidded to black-robes, I think he should have been a magic-user.

However, black-robes in 3.5 don't have all of the same restrictions that they did in 1e. Also, in 1e, if you switch robes, or become a renegade, your whole class changes, IIRC. The way 3.5 works, I would not be at all surprised that Raistlin took levels of WoHS while he was still a red-robe, even if he can be considered a renegade later.

...Okay, it just occurred to me to look up his stats in WotL, and he's a Wizard 5/WoHS 1. So there you are, he has at least one level of WoHS (if they're gonna be consistent, anyway). As to whether he's lost the abilities of the class, well that's another matter, and I have no clue... ;)

But at least we know his Wisdom is 12!

AHA! Just as I suspected! You're getting more and more predtictable, Mr. Banks...IF THAT'S YOUR REAL NAME!

(Note: No, I don't know the point of this either.)

I tend to think that he took the WoHS class up to the end of the WotL. Just from a red robe turning black, that was a distinct moment in his character development. But once he served his purpose and helped defeat Tahkisis, he was no longer taking levels of WoHS, but the WoHS wee not aware of that fact till it was to late and sent Dalamar to spy on him.

Technically he never broke the rules set by the WoHS until tried to alter time.

I actually thought about something like this a while ago. Now, if I'm not mistaken, when you switch robes, you get to keep the Secrets of yoru Order that you learned. So, I basically decided which secrets from the Black Robes fit Raistlin, and which ones from the Red Robes. I don't remember what they were, but basically he came out to needing like, 7 levels of Red Robe and 3 of Black. I know that's not quite what's being asked here, but it relates.

Anywho, I'm sure that he took all levels of WoHS, because the only reason not to is if you want your familiar to gain more power. So basically, no reason. There's no law against it, he was always part of the WoHS, until right up at the end, and by then, he was powering himself, so he wouldn't lose class levels or anything. And anywho, by the end of the WotL, I'd say he was already around level 17 or 18, at the least. Afterwards, he only had 2 major power boosts: using the bloodstone on Fisty, and of course becoming a god.

Well, there are other wizard-oriented prestige classes. It's a delicate balancing act.

While there are others, the only ones that I can really think of that would fit Raistlin are Archmage, War Mage, and Loremaster. WoHS is just as good as those, except for Archmage, but I'm sure he could max out both.

Raistlin, I believe, was epic level by the time of the War of the Lance was over.
