Perhaps so much that the game has become a hybrid, or just small rules. For example, I'm thinking of using the 3e armor table, and expanding the STR table so 25 is no longer the maximum. My large collection of 2nd edition AD&D material suits me fine, and I only have the 3e PHB, so I'm looking for particular bits that are nice to incorporate. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Lord_Soto Date : 09-22-03 05:23 PM I borrowed the d20 initiative, although I modified it somewhat to make use of weapon speeds and casting time. I find that it gives a wider spread of PC action, and since I usually DM large parties, that gives them more personal space to plan strategy. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Agathokles Date : 09-24-03 06:24 AM Thread Title : Re: Using 3e in older editions Originally posted by Lingula I was wondering if anyone has incorporated elements of 3e in earlier editions. IMO, there are already a lot of options in AD&D: for example, there are expanded armor tables in both the CFT and PO (Combat & Tactics?), IIRC. For open characteristics tables, I'd recommend the OD&D versions (Immortal Set, IIRC), which seem more in line with the basic AD&D tables than those of 3e. You might want to add some feats as NWPs, but then I'd recommend more the setting or genre related things than the generic ones. All in all, if you think you like something from 3e, try first having a look at Player's Option books for AD&D, since many of the 3e innovations are already there. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Lord Gwydion Date : 09-24-03 08:35 PM Last Christmas I DMed a one-shot game for some of my friends from home. We played 3E, but it was set in our old OD&D/Mystara campaign. I didn't adopt any of the new rules to the old, so technically I didn't do what you were asking. I did see how easy it was to recreate the old stuff with the new. To simulate the OD&D "Elf" class, I just made a Fighter/Wizard/Spellsword, and it worked fine. Now, I'm thinking, just for old time's sake and a good laugh, of making base class "Elf," "Dwarf," and "Halfling" classes for 3.5. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Warhead Date : 09-27-03 01:20 PM I'm probably going to have a go with the "high AC=to hit roll" with a bonues for level - one of my players is still struggling with the THACO concept. I keep meaning to work out the Saving Throws in the same way, but I need to sit and have a think about it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : abelan23 Date : 09-27-03 01:59 PM 3e has given us a new set of rules to pick and choose from. I have adopted the new ability tables, and have tweaked the saving throws to remove RSW. My players still use the old AC/THAC0/XP charts, but the game still plays the same. The easy thing to do is convert to a 2.5 rules base, and enjoy the best of both worlds. Most of my players are enjoying the added hit points, and the clerical healing exchange. I did make some changes to multiclassing, and it has given players a chance to dabble in a class rather than make it the focus of their adventuring career. 3.0/3.5 has some good mechanics, but my group doesn't want to convert to the whole system, that's why the 2.5 revision was our best idea. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:17 AM.
