Usually caused by misunderstandings, it is found that these wars in reality have been caused by Baatezu spies. Not just any spies, but a new form of Baatezu that is so close to a Deva in form and immune to alignment detection that nobody had noticed them, until now. Acting as mediators, the Guardinals manage to end all conflict threwout the Upper Planes, and negotiate the formation of an Army of Light. However not all of the Celestials are in favor of peace. Secretly, some plot with the Baatezu, if they can eliminate the attendees at the negotiations, they could become the strongest force in the Upper Planes. This hidden taint of evil has also gone unnoticed by the Celestials up until now. However the plot is discovered and foiled(by the PCs perhaps?). Afterwards the Celestials are discovered to be working with the Baatezu they are immediately banished from the upper planes. The only problem: They take their realms with them....to Baator. And quickly the realms expand into full fledged layers somehow. The Nine Hells just became the 16 Hells. With their newfound power, the Baatazu begin to completely slaughter the Tanar Ri, and one of the "Lords of the 16" does the unthinkable: Seal the Abyss's plane of infinite portals somehow. The Rilmani quickly intervene, and warfare soon erupts between the Baatezu and the Rilmani. The army of light, still reeling from the recent events, manages to pull itself toghether and begin to build up the Upper Planes. The real force behind all the events is soon revealed, known only as the Unbalance, which seeks to destroy the multiverse itself. |

If the PCs aren't pivotally involved, it's not a game - it's a bad fantasy novel waiting to happen. ;) My recommended Planescape campaign hook: Browse through the established, canon 'names' who hold most of the power in the setting and cause most everything to happen. (Y'know, folks on the level of Jeremo or Zadara, or Talisid, the Oinoloth or Vlaakith if you're looking at the planes as a whole.) Arrange to have one of these notables bumped off. Then let your PCs participate in the fallout. Good, clean wholesome fun! |
