Hi!

Does anyone else noticed the similarities between the King Kong movie and the Isle of Dread adventure?

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will (I hear it's good) and from what I understand it was made to be as close to the original as possible. So if there are close similarities, it's more likely that the Isle of Dread modulae may be based on the movie... maybe.

My thoughts also. The movie is in fact good and also long...

SPLOILER ALERT:

One that has played the Isle of Dread will immediatly recognized some aspects of the movie in the adventure (or vice versa); a secret island, "protected" by a human tribe behind a great wall that on the other side has dinosaurs.

I haven't seen King Kong yet, but considering both are "Lost World" settings, I could definitely see the similarity.

As a side note, I hadn't noticed it until recently, but in the module X9: The Savage Coast, there is a Gargantuan White Ape in the module that is a legendary creature on the SC. Definitely shades of King Kong there.

Haven't seen - just the old movie version. But I got to thinking about an old Greyhawk scenario: "Isle of the Ape" I think it was called. I have seen an old painting of a a giant gorilla battling the Tarasque in a jungle setting, which I think is connected to that module.

Anyone ever play it?

Its not the only adventure to based on other work. For those of a classical nature 'Into the Maelstrom' is based on the tale of Odysseus by Homer after the Trojan War. I cheated and watched the mini-series on tv :D
